Tell her you'll stick her nose up her arse if she patronises you again the snooty cow! Just because we're in a recession does not mean people should have to work for peanuts.
You keep looking hun, it's not as bad as it was in the 80s, summat will come up.
I thought minimum wage was about ÂĢ5.

Problem is that they can throw you off the dole if they think that you are not looking for work properly.
Still aimee, they shouldn't even have jobs listed that are below the minimum wage.
Maybe this job was able to get around the rules by stating it was an apprenticeship or summat

just ask why you are not entitled to minimum wage. ask why this place of work are not obligated to pay it.
something very wrong there .........if you dont pay minimum wage you can be prosecuted surely.

Oh its legal all right, as long as they stick, trainee or aprentice at the beginning of the job title.
YTS = 4 days work + 1 day of college for the grand total of ÂĢ28.00 a week. I was a YTS office junior 23 years ago, my roles included being a PA to 2 managers and managing the bookshop, including serving and banking the takings. When it got too busy they employed a Manager for the bookshop on a starting salary of ÂĢ14,000.

Optician is a good profession. How long would it take to become qualified?

Great minds and all that!
Minimum wage is ÂĢ5.83 per hour raising to ÂĢ5.91 in October... tell em to shove it!!
To offer someone ÂĢ2.70 an hour with the cost of living today is very insulting even though you are a learner. This Optician should be named and shamed. You don't have to say but is it one of the big names like Boots, Specsavers?

the job centre are USELESS. i wont say anything more cos i could rant about them for HOURS lol
I was going to suggest that you take all of us with you next time you visit the job centre (and your dad, of course--he should go in, this time), but it sounds like you handled it perfectly!
