I get physical withdrawal symptoms!

Mine was off for over a week once..... it was only when it was gone that I realised how often a day I googled stuff! How did we used to live without the answers to everything at our finger tips?

I'm glad it's not just me. It's true, I am always looking up facts too. Great having answers in seconds.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

we had a power cut a few months ago...    I was really smug that my laptop had a full charge until I realised the router needed leccy!

coffee I managed to sort out (hubby had the bbq out... in the snow in the garden, boiling water on it for my coffee)...   lights - no problem.. due to hubbies torch fetish...

entertainment - I had downloaded an episode of true blood....  my lappy battery lasted til 5mins before the end of the episode

we were then reduced to reading by torchlight.    I was a right miserable moaning cow! 

I swore I would sort out a contingency for such incidents in the future - I haven't actually done it yet... but I do intend to buy a little generator...  and sort out a hardwire internet connection.... ready for next time!

Many a time I get this sudden compulsion to cancel my broadband, then I realise it was a bad dream 

We'd laughed off having a phone book in the house.... so didn't know who to ring to find out what the power cut was all about...

we rang 118 118 and asked them in the end!

You could buy a UPS. They can be expensive, but they give you power for your equipment. There is a direct relationship between amount of "up" time and cost.

I havn't had the internet for 8 days It took me 4 days to get over it.

oooooh!   I like the look of the UPS...   I had concerns about generators & the whole "blonde with petrol canister" risks     I nearly set the neighbourhood alight with my garden burning torch things from B&Q.....

Ditty - we had a power cut not so long back too - right in the middle of the h/l show too - I was in the same boat as you and thought I could power up the lappy instead - then realised I TOO needed the frickin router

I remember a few years back, my PC was broke - but I STILL sat at the desk beside it

I was distraught....   hubby's attempt at entertaining us....  setting up torches to hit a battery powered glitter ball he'd got as his secret santa gift from work did not even raise a smile from me.

I was accused of having a sense of humour bypass!

As you have probably worked out, it's a big box full of batteries. We use them at work. I agree, they are much better than the petrol generators - and less noisy !!

It must have been traumatic for you to blog about it - Is there a film script in there somewhere?

My bestest friend in the whole wide world lost her internet connection for two weeks - I got up in the night to have a wee (as you do ), looked out the window, and she was sat outside in her car using my wireless internet - it was 4 am.

I went back to bed and left her there

Actually - the whole of our town centre is wifi enabled ... I just don't think she wanted to be seen - but then, I don't know, I never asked her, coz I didn't confess to having seen her!!!

I would have taken her a coffee hoochie ... for a price

When I started this thread I did not realise how many great anecdotes would appear. Rexi and Dirtyprettygirlthing should get together and knock up a script..  I just love the idea of spotting your friend in the early hours getting in a crafty surfing session..

I bounce off walls when I have no internet. My husband and my sons leave the house and if the dog could walk herself she would.

Ooh yesI feel my right arm has been cut off if I lose my internet!
I remember when we lost it for a few hours because we were switching provider - just as I needed to google UK hotels as my Eurostar break had just gone belly up (remember the tunnel fire) ooh how did we cope before the internet??

I get serious withdrawal symptoms when I can't access the internet.
I am quite shocked that I have become so dependent on it.
