blimey Aimesss, ÂĢ500 is what I pay for 4 kids for xmas Eeker the more you give the more they expect.

Too true.

Looking at some of the replies on here, I feel really mean, but if you havn't got it, you can't do you it Frowner

Don't feel mean. Loving your kids is about more than just spending vast fortunes on them or giving them whatever they want whenever they want.

It's about life-training. They have to learn there isn't an endless supply of money for presents. They have to learn to do without by learning to choose between one thing and another.

Among the people I know, it never fails to amaze me how little the rich spend on their kids, and how much the poorer ones spend on theirs.

ÂĢ100 for subsequent birthdays
ÂĢ300 for 16th
ÂĢ500 for 18th
Christmas is a big pressie and lots of little ones.

Cor blimey - you must be very very rich

No..but then I don't smoke or drink and don't have the expense of running a car. Generally they save their money and spend it wisely so am not worried that they don't value it..if they want driving lessons or the deposit for a place of their own or indeed the latest in phone technology..then they pay for it.

Now, that's the one thing I did pay for on their 17th birthdays - driving lessons. I saw it as part of their education and I reckoned that, if nothing else, they could always get back-up jobs as taxi-drivers, milkmen or delivery people if ever they needed it in the future. One became a police officer so it was useful for driving his company car!

Yep, they turn up on Big Brother and become Beatches.

Kids need to learn that you don't always get what you want in life and that sometimes they will hear the word no.

Exactly. Everyone needs to understand suffering and frustration (without going into the more heartbreaking definitions of suffering).
