Some advice needed.. am moving soon and need to keep the costs down so was going to go to Ikea to get a bed and a matress, however someone's told me that the normal duvet/sheets won't fit as they are different sizes? Is this true? I can't find a decent review online...

i think i depends i have a double bed from there and my double fitted sheet etc just fitted but kept coming off so i pinned it until i could get some king size ones , a friend got a double bed from there not long after and her sheets fitted fine
I have beds from ikea and have had no probs finding sheets to fit
Oh fabulous - i was a bit worried there - i know it sounds silly but loose sheets drive me INSANE! haha!
I once bought a duvet cover from there and it was too big for a single and too small for a double so God knows what it was supposed to fit

They're European sizes, I think. Measured in cms.
Their pillows are larger.

i do love a good futon.. i may be a bit old for such now tho, rolling out of bed and heaving myself up onto a chair is probably not a great look first thing in the morning..

This is a drawback of the futon. However, on the plus side, if you regularly fall out of bed when drunk, you don't have far to land.

Any shop with a range called Billy is worth buying from in my book.

see what you did there..
I think that's right. Most Ikea products only fit their own supplies. I had some trouble with a lamp that would only take Ikea bulbs a few years back.
Never bought a bed but I did buy some bed linen that doesn't fit any of my duvets, pillows etc.

Ikea do lovely dill flavoured crisps. That was the best part of living in Sweden.

i blame the Welsh
I don't think Ikea mattresses are that cheap or that comfy. Go to somewhere like Dreams and haggle. I got a new bed last year and I was not sure about buying their mattress (it was about 200 quid) then they offered me one discounted which they provide to hotels it was the same spec as teh one I wasn't sure about and it's a cracking mattress. Also try just looking on line for my other room I got a Sealy posturepedic one pretty cheap. My OH has ikea mattress in his bed at his house (also pretty new) and I think it's uncomfy and not even.
I bought bunks which were great but matresses needed replacing after a year as they werent very good.
Bought a sofabed last year which is amazingly comfortable
