I very rarely buy food there, but I did buy 'brown' tomatoes' - 'kimoto tomatoes' there last week and bought a subsequent pack as they were fascinating (but nothing too special tbh) but hubby has realised I spend ad hoc these days and seems to be watching the visa. Roll Eyes but then we are buying a new kitchen/bathroom and doing up the 3 bedrooms after we've just finished the living room (plus, I haven't had a new sofa yet!) but he is spending some rubbish money buying off his siblings' silence/rights to property in Turkey (eventhough it should be reversed as he payed off his parents mortgage and they never/have done a tap and want equal shares - another story!). Or my brother for 14 yrs - he knew of the will tho' and my Dad left it half and half in case my so caled brother tortured me after he died). How evil people win/gain! I agree that some tesco and asda 'own brand' stuff is fine, and the sainsburys 'own brand' stuff is even better... but the actual' budget' brand of most stuff (especially asda and tescos,) that we have tried is pretty dire. As I said, we spend very little on luxuries and vices, so we like to enjoy our food and won't buy the budget stuff if we don't have to. Smiler

Kitchen roll/toilet paper I agree isn't worth it, it doesn't last.

So sometimes some value stuff may not be as healthy as branded stuff!

A few years ago I gained a vast amount of weight (I was also undiagnosed with pernicious anemia at the time)and I used the now known 'alli' (sp?) (Xenical) tablets' properly and lost 5 stone (half a stone I put back on after my weight settled after stopping the tablets, but I have subsequently lost inches going to the gym for years - any how, what I'm trying to say is the percentage of fat per 100gms is important - 5gms per gms should be max - 3 is perfect - so you have to become a reader of labels, it sounds hard but you wil get the drift, plus watch calories too.

Ive been eating too many takeaways and sausages this year so my doctors told me to take more exercise and eat better. The funny thing is I dont eat red meat or butter or cakes and stuff like that. Ive always been an avid label reader just got into bad eating habits.

I've learned a lot thro' reading labels, honestly. Nod Don't believe these 'healthy' snacks as in special K, to name but one - either. Shake Head

I've been veggie for nearly 40 yrs and have never smoked - ok I like my cheap wine - but I do read labels. I had a high reading from a cholesterol test done a few months ago and the doc said it was high from a reading of 'good cholesterol' so I guess you have to have your reading interpreted to you or like me you'll panic as my parents had high cholesterol and my Mum died of breast cancer at 58 and my Dad's family were full of cholesterol and strokes, (my Dad smoked himself to death btw, I've never smoked) his brother dying at 41! We can only head and be aware, we're al different.

wine is my downfall if I'm honest. I never use oil, eat cakes, biscuits etc. Confused

A few years ago when they first tried me on Xenical (those fat tabs) I was proud to say I only used them as a treat - If only I knew! You have to read labels as I said above - 5gms of fat per 100gms should be max - 3gms per 100gms is ideal! (hard to find tho' M&S 'count on us' crisps are good for a treat 2. something per 100gms)

weetabix per serving: 0.8g fat, 0.2g saturated
per 100g: 2g fat, 0.6g saturated

Tesco own: per serving:2.9g, sat 1.5g
per 100g: 1.5g, sat 0.4g

So the saturated fat and total fat content is higher per serving in tescos own which can't be possible. Im thinking the label is wrong!

Just look at the 'per 100gms' column and look at all fat (don't take any notice of saturated/sunflower etc) you just need to look at a total fat reading per 100gms.

Looks like Tescos per 100gms is better! Thumbs Up

Have a doc interpret your reading for you hun, as in bad/versus good - it's so confusing. Hug

I know what your saying but what I mean is that the fat content is higher per serving when it should be lower than the per 100g. Im thinking they're the wrong way round unless it is accounting for a 37.5 serving with milk.

Look at the fat content for the food as in Wetabix, then account for the milk separately (that's what the nurse taught me to look for and the Xenical people used to phone me at home!) however, label reading for fat content was the best tip I've been given - of course account it along with your 1500-2000 or whatever calorie count you require per day. Hope you get me.

Use skimmed milk btw.
