Nod a friend of mine used to work for Walkers and allegedly M&S had a section in the corner for their products.

Not always so - I've worked for companies that produce own brand goods and usually there are recipe modifications and cheaper ingredients (for sweets anyway, for sure)

Made by the same people, but not necessarily the same product. M & S are very picky about what goes in their products. They will specify a list of suppliers that you're 'allowed' to buy raw ingredients from etc. Pain in the ass to deal with to be honest!

Yep, as in dairylea cheese - allegedly, grated, dried up pieces of cheese with powdered milk or something. Confused

I occasionally buy M&S' 'count on us' crisps as they're baked and per 100g are about 2.5 grms which is excellent - about 82 calories per bag - expensive but stops you eating 2 or 3 packs!

Not intending to move in to a 'tips' thread - but a teaspoon of soda crystals dissolved in an egg cup of hot water along with an old toothbrush for cleaning - cleanses your jewellery a treat - remember to rinse it after in warm water and buff dry with kitchen roll - no need for expensive jewellery cleaners.

NB: do not use Shake Head for jewellery that has been glued as in a lot of costume jewellery - it becomes unstuck and you'll lose the stones. Nod

I won't compromise on many things actually and yes is IS false economy with many cheap things, as they ARE sub-standard. And regarding foodstuff; I would rather cut down on other stuff, than buy budget food. I know what kind of stuff goes into 'smart price' and 'value' foods. Ninja

I do tend to spend 'more' though, on coffee (always carte noir) and I do like decent makes of everything else. Well I don't smoke anymore, I rarely drink booze, and I work hard, so I think I am entitled to nice food stuffs Smiler

I/we, my hubby and I don't smoke/have take a ways or eat out but occasionally like wine (ironically we prefer cheap stuff, even value, sorry but we do? Nod Confused ) and like yourself I enjoy a nice coffee, bread, cheese etc and tampons Confused Nod, washing up liquid (despite having a dishwasher for 20yrs plus, even then you get the tablets you pay for imo) lenor is my fav softener, even cling fil and kitchen roll is false economy imo - I also prefer hubby to eat good meat/fish as I'm veggie and eat quorn - a for slad, I'll only buy the 'florette' as the gases they use to inflate the other bags of salad are rubish and they wilt asap imo.

I very rarely buy food there, but I did buy 'brown' tomatoes' - 'kimoto tomatoes' there last week and bought a subsequent pack as they were fascinating (but nothing too special tbh) but hubby has realised I spend ad hoc these days and seems to be watching the visa. Roll Eyes but then we are buying a new kitchen/bathroom and doing up the 3 bedrooms after we've just finished the living room (plus, I haven't had a new sofa yet!) but he is spending some rubbish money buying off his siblings' silence/rights to property in Turkey (eventhough it should be reversed as he payed off his parents mortgage and they never/have done a tap and want equal shares - another story!).
