I am short-sighted in both eyes and its become really irritating wearing glasses and contact lenses. Anyone here ever gone through eye laser surgery before and is it painful?

I know a few people who have had it and have said it's brilliant. They didn't say it hurt, but were a bit freaked out seeing the laser go over their eyes
my nephew had it done a few years back-the woman that did it touched him up while she was doing the laser treatment
he was in his 20's though, still, he got his moneys worth

my mum got told it wouldn;t work on her eyes ... i didn't realise it wouldn't work on everyone.
I thought about having it but was put off for a couple of reasons. My friend had it done and she said it was really painful and it also didn't really work as she still has to wear glasses for reading, driving etc. So she paid out for the surgery and she also still has the cost of her specs to cover too. Also, my optician said that it's quite common for people who wear glasses from a younger age that their eyesight will start to improve as they get older, whereas people who have never had to wear specs will find their eyesight declines as they get older. I know one of my tutors at uni suddenly stopped wearing his specs when he was 45 because his eyesight had sort of rectified itself.
I believe it doesn`t usually hurt but your eyes may feel tired and a little bit sensitive to light. Apparently it is very important to follow the post-op care instructions to the letter, i.e. wear sunglasses and administer prescribed eye drops as advised.

I struggle to even put eye drops in or eyeliner on my eyelids - the thought of putting contacts makes me feel sick so I couldn't even entertain the idea of laser surgery
Gethin Jones (ex Blue Peter & Strictly Come Dancing) has just had it done.
I used to be squeemish about eyes believing it would be the most delicate and painful surgery.
But in my case(s) it was surprisingly pain free.

I would love to have it done, but my eyes haven't settled enough for it yet. Apparently it doesn't hurt, just is rather uncomfortable for the duration and for a few days.
My daughter has had it done all went well the second time she went in...
The first time she got in the chair and was about to start and the machine broke!
Aftercare was good and no problems.

I wanted to have it done but watched a vid of being done on youtube.
My advice...don't watch that vid.

I know someone who had it done and he said he had his eyeballs clamped open a la Clockwork Orange
However, it is entirely possible that he said this just to freak me out
