Are you nervous? I feel nervous already Eeker

I'm definitely getting nervous now! I don't feel ready at all. I don't know why but I had it in my head that I would be well overdue, so when the consultant said she wanted to try and start me off early I was really shocked. I don't think you'll ever feel ready though. What's your due date again?

9th October, but it's quite big on the scan and the midwife was feeling me on Friday and said "Oh, it's not a small baby is it?" Eeker Eeker Eeker

Laugh Mine did that to me last week. Could be worse, when I was in hospital the other day there was a girl there who was 30 weeks and measuring at 39 weeks! Eeker Red Face As long as you're prepared to 'go' early, you'll be fine. Have you got all your essential shopping sorted?

Crikey Eeker I think we've got everything nearly - how about you? I hope you have Big Grin

Nope! Eeker Disappointed Thank god for online shopping! Laugh

lol, I second that Thumbs Up

had a few choice words for that midwife!! i mean she left me for over 30 mins before claiming i wasn't ready to push Roll Eyes

thing is a baby can be born with the sac round there head like a space man...doesn't do any harm so why they make you wait i dont know....makes it easier for them i spose

Zactly the same happened to me with my first. Told me to stop pushing and they left me there for half an hour. Then they came and broke the waters. It was because there was a caesarian going on next door.

yeah there was one going off next door to me too, mother and bbay were fine but apparently it was quite a traumatic operation for the mum. i think mainly cos it was emergency and she had planned her birth perfectly...and ofc it never really goes to plan.

they need more midwives. mined you i had 3 of them flapping round me at one point Ninja

Oh i had it with both of mine. eeewwwww!! lol but after it neither baby emerged for at least 24 hours after that, so not a sign of imminent arrival i don't think. All labours are different, my waters didn't break untill about 20 mins before the birth with both ( had an awful experience with 2nd, they kept leaving me cos my waters hadn't broke even though i could feel the baby's head!!! bloody idiots! might as well have stayed at home and delivered it myself for all the help they were. ) I know everyone says it but honestly you'll know............mostly cos it'l be really f******* painfull, my advice is to get yourself to hosp before it gets unbearable so you'll have plenty of time for a nice relaxing epidural. Don't listen to all the old claptrap about side effects blah blah blah, it's the best thing ever invented!!

And don't worry you'll be absolutely fine. Hug

See, that's what I want to ask - if you feel like you should be pushing, surely that's what you should do? I keep hearing people saying the same sort of thing that they were told to hang on!

well, it depends how far dialated you are, need to be a certain amount to push, but can feel need to push ( second stage of labour) before dialated enough...midwife can tell but this one argued i wasn't ready without checking.

Crikey, it's so complicated isn't it? Big Grin

I'm just so amazed reading all the threads and posts about pregnancy and labour. It's 35 years since I had my last baby and we just didn't know anything about what happened in pregnancy and labour back then. We weren't told anything and we never asked either. I don't think we would have been told much if we had asked.Big Grin We just sort of got on with things and left it all to the midwives. I honestly don't know if all this is an improvement or not tbh. One thing that is a huge improvement though, is the fact that today pregnant women are not treated like cattle like we were back in the bad old days.

Good luck Queenie, and I hope it all goes well for you. Hug

Agreed! When they said 'plug' I thought it was going to be a quick thing without an awful lot of mess but with my first it just kept coming and coming and coming - ewwww
littleleicesterfox
I will totally second the every labour is different statement earlier btw.

Each of my four was completely different from the other - my first I didn't have a clue what was going on most of the time. I didn't know it was labour at first because the pain was all in my back and my thighs and there was no pain in my abdomen at all until very late into it.

My second I can 't really help you with as I under very unusual circumstances at the time and so had an epidural and didn't feel the labour at all.

The third the labour was all in my tummy and was relatively mild compared to my first. Mind, i think I made my first much worse by becoming very worked up and very tense because I was scared and I was much more relaxed for my third and so it was a lot easier to go with it.

The fourth was all over the place - I was in with suspected early labour from 31 weeks - 35 weeks back and forth to the hospital and they eventually induced me at 39 weeks because of the SPD. But that's the only one I did totally without an epidural and it was a lot quicker than the others.
littleleicesterfox
Morning all. wavey Just back from the hospital appointment. Blood pressure is lower and more stable than it has been for a few weeks at around /87 and no trace of protein in my wee today so all good news. Thumbs Up The midwife said she thought I looked much healthier today too and I woke up with no pains this morning. Smiler I explained what happened yesterday and the midwife said it was a good sign that things are moving quickly and naturally. The lower pain was probably caused by the fact I have a 'very fidgety baby' and it's pushing it's head quite hard while getting fully engaged, it's just more painful because of the SPD. The tightening across the middle is probably Braxton Hicks but she thinks it's a likely sign that I won't have too much longer to go now. She told me to aim for Sunday. Nod

The consultant made me feel better too because she said the midwives never let her live down the fact she went to hospital thinking she was in full labour when she was having Braxton Hicks with her first baby. Big Grin

btw 'man milk' and 'plugs' Disappointed Sick Laugh
