Personally, I'll be sticking to Johnson's because it's tried and tested but I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the Asda stuff.

I used Johnsons with my two, to be honest though I just loved the way they smelt when I used it.

I don't know anything about current baby toiletries, all I know is that when I had my children 36 and 34 years ago respectively I bought Johnsons and used them with no problems, and one of my daughters had very sensitive skin.
Johnsons stands the test of time. I was pleased to see my daughter using it for her two babies without any prompting from me.

love johnsons powder dont skimp on that lol love it love it brings back so many memories
The only other product I used that wasn't Johnsons was Infacare in the bathwater and I can still rermember the lovely fresh scent.

and it smells lovely, cuddly and I could eat my grandson
Johnsons wins hands down.
BUT I think most of Asda's own brands is completely shit. Try a Tesco/sainsburys/Morrisons brand and see if it makes a difference.
Problem with Asda I find these days is that it's getting harder to buy proper brands as they are promoting their own brand. Fair dos to them but their quality is proper dire.

I've just bought a load of Johnsons products ready for my new grandson, due on July 9th.
If you have a Home Bargain store near you, the Johnson range is quite cheap.
But to be honest, I think the Asda essential range is great too.

I love those places, I get a big tub of Johnsons cotton buds cheap. Love it.
I never used Johnsons cos it burns my skin (and I can generally put any old shit on with no ill effects) so I wouldn't put it on my kids...i just used the supermarket own brand...they're all pretty much the same.

My DIL uses Neals Yard on my grandson - or stuff she has made up herself (she is a naturopath)
Personally the best smell on babies is the one they're born with, I just can't stop sniffing them when they're new.
It's the same with new born puppies and kittens

The supermarkets own brands have to be as rigourously tested, dermatologically speaking, as much as Johnsons etc. so, aside from the scent, it doesn't make a lot of difference.
I tend to use whichever wipes are on the 2 for 1 offer (but fragrance-free as I find the scented ones overpowering) that aren't totally cheap as they tend to be quite harsh but I do like Johnsons nightime range for the bath as I think it smells lovely!
I have got Tesco's baby nighttime talc for myself and that smells nice too

i have tried other brands but always go back to Johnsons, the wipes are good quality and the shampoo and babybath doesnt sting eyes. Look around for deals, as someone said the 99p shops usually have a good range of stuff, dont go to Boots they very rarely have good deals, not here anyway
