and his wistfulness over Edie Matheson.  I quite liked Lilo Lil but only because she drove Nellie mental.  And thinking about it, Aveline did her bit too by marrying a Proddi (sp) who happened to be a vicar. It seemed funny at the time.
Yes you are right - I loved it but have seen repeats since and didn't really find it funny - apart from aveline. There was an innocence about her that was endearing..

Mind you Billy and Julie were something else as well.

I think Carla Lane ran out of ideas waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the series finally ended.  It sort of became a battering ram for proving women were strong and all men were wimps, wasters and not worth the drippings off a dishcloth.

I think the characters & situations became a bit stagnant, although I did used to laugh at Adrian when his life/emotions hung 'by a thread'.  And I could never take Joey seriously in his naff leather jacket & trouser combo.

That said, this is about Gilly Coman;  she made the role her own and that in itself deserves respect.

watching the DVDs now is very different, ur right, back in the day, I thought Joey was a bit of a dude , whereas now I see a very tasteless ponce.  I loved Adrian's 'depression' and the way the family were always trying to scam the DSS.  It was obvious that Miss Prissy Pants behind the counter at the DSS had a crush on Joey
YES!!!!!!!
Joey was a complete twat really, Mind you the actor that played the original Joey went on to be a great hollywood director
