i am fuming with my daughter i bought her an ipod nano (ÂĢ179) about 4 weeks and she text me last night to say she had left it on the table in a restaurant Mad her grandparents turned the car straight round and went back, the table had been cleared but the ipod had gone Roll Eyes they think it might have been 1 of the staff, they have asked to look at the cctv tapes but the staff have refused, has daughters grandparents got the right to look at the tapes or are the restaurant right to refuse?

i'm not insured either, this week goes from bad to worse Disappointed

Is it a 'chain/group' restaurant, or an independent ?
If it's part of a group, contact their customer service people and make a formal complaint.

If it's an independent, report it to your local police.

I doubt they'll do anything about it, because they need all their resources to catch the naughty motorists.. Ninja

Actually, check your Home Contents Insurance Policy, you may be able to claim on that for some things that you lose away from home..

As others have said... only the police can demand to see the tapes.

To be honest though, I am not sure they will for the theft of an iPod. When I worked at a pub one of the customers was found dead in his home the morning after drinking in our pub (he overdosed).... obviously there was a police investigation, but it still took the police 5 weeks to come and look at our cctv tapes....

Likewise when my (then) 8 year old daughter got beaten up by a group of teenagers, resulting in her ending up in hospital.... took the police a fortnight to come and take a statement from her.

i don't know if its a chain or not, i wasn't there, her grandad and some of the footie lads have gone back there know apparently to have another word with them
Aimee
BTW.... one of my brother in laws has just given my daughter the latest iPod 30GB MP4 player... (I have no idea what they cost... I shudder to think)....

I keep grabbing it off her before she leaves the house... and questioning her as to whether "she really needs to take it out with her"...

And I have picked it up off the floor 3 times!!!!

I am resigned... it is only a matter of time before something happens to it!

i can't believe she left it in the first place, its bloody shocking pink, how could she had not seen it on the table Roll Eyes

she's been really good with it so far, she didn't even take it out with her for the first few weeks of having it, i bought her the sock things to put it in so it wouldn't be too visible when she was out and now she's gone and done this Mad

if it is one of the staff though, we might have a chance of getting it back but if its a customer its long gone and i have bought a very expensive present for someone i don't know Big Grin

Was a long time ago now... 8 years ago. We lived in a different area... she used to play out with other kids her age.

A group of 14 year old girls had seen her and her friend and started jeering and stuff at them... they pushed and jostled them a bit... but then one of them shoved my daughter to the floor... onto a rusty jagged metal pipe.

She had to have loads of stitches in her leg.. still has the scars.

Cos of the ages of the girls it was hard for the police to do much, but the one that pushed her has it on her record as 'recorded but not proven' ?? or something.

We moved house shortly after.

*nods*... we are still in the 'being extra careful with it' phase... I am expecting complacency to set in at some point.

That said... since she killed her first two mobiles (one in the washing machine... one got stood on)... and I went ballistic... she has managed to keep them safe and intact.

Time will tell.

I love where we are now. It was the good thing to come out of the bad thing if you know what I mean.

The policeman that (finally) took on our case, told us when he went round to the girls house the family were like something from "neighbours from hell".... effing and blinding... denying her daughter was involved.... they were basically scum!

There are some bloody awful people about... glad you got away too Hug

Nope. Although it's difficult. You have a right under Data Protection law to ask for and look at the images of you but you don't for images of other people in the same shots. Technically, they should 'redact' the images of the other people, possibly using pixellating technology. It's very odd that they're refusing. I'd involve the police I think. Or threaten too. They'll probably have 'lost' the tape by then though.

Yep... I thought of a thousand different ways to destroy them all! Nod

But cos I had to look after my daughter, and a toddler and a full time job to try to hold down, I didn't have the opportunity to act in the heat of the moment.

Besides, word soon got back to me that she was gonna come and kick me and my lying daughter in the 'foo foo'...

So I handed the whole thing over to the police... and put my house up for sale, got a good enough price for it to move to a lovely rural village with a happy village primary school, and lived happily ever after.

I laughed last! Big Grin
