I am looking forward to it but not yet convinced by the casting. Apparently the girl playing Cathy is going to play it 'northern'. Eh?! How else could you play Cathy?!

BBC's adaptations are usually OK but this is ITV so, fingers crossed eh, Pengy?!
As a Bronte fanatic, I'm anxious about it. It can't be any worse than the Hollywood version though.

Yeah, it didn't follow the book at all.

No, you're right, it didn't. But I quite liked that film, though. I think Tom Hardy who is playing Heathcliff in ITV's effort will play him as a bit of a git, which he was in the book, if I remember.
There was a really rubbish film version with Ralph Fiennes in it a few years ago, too.
What bugs me (and I know it shouldn't) is that people will watch this instead of reading the book, and not have an inkling of the genius of Emily Bronte. She did'nt even live to see her book acclaimed as a work of genius. She was only 30 when she died of tuberculosis.
I want to watch this but it's not on my tv guide

Even the definitive black and white version with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon completely missed out the second generation...
I'm a bit unsure about the casting in this version tonight. I am going to tape it and I will know within five minutes of watching it whether or not the cast is right. If they get it wrong, I will not watch it. The characters have to be cast as EB depicted them. There is only one actor around today who could play Heathcliffe, and that is Richard Armitage imo. He has the dark brooding sexual presence/persona to carry it off. As for Cathy, I don't know who could play Cathy and capture her feisty spirit.

that is so true I must have read that book about 30 times and I still find something new in every reading and Heathcliff still makes me go all goosebumpy

Perhaps it's not being shown on Scottish ITV, Cagney. I know my friend who lives in Scotland can't watch loads of the ITV stuff that we get down here

Was that in North and South by Mrs Gaskell pengy? He has that intensity needed to play Heathcliff, it can't be a namby pamby boy for sure. Is there a Richard Armitage Army. If there is, I want to join lol.
Panic over. Found it. Thought I was gonna miss out on a chance to watch Tom Hardy there

I always thought Alan Rickman would have made a good Heathcliff when he was younger (with me playing Cathy, of course)

He's rather nice, but he's no Heathcliff. And Juliette Binoche, lovely as she is, ain't no Cathy either.

Well if he's playing Heathcliffe it has to be the Vicar of Dibley playing Cathy.

LOL yes...although mebbe a bit too polished. I remember Sean Bean playing a rather rough and ready Mellors a while back. A bit too old now though and blonde of course...
Perhaps of he borrowed Alan's Sheriff of Nottingham wig.
It's on ITV Wales at 9pm if anyone has Sky/Freeview.
