I'd be grateful if anyone who knows about this stuff could give me some help.

My mum has a large collection of family events on VHS video and following a death in the family she has realised she needs them transferred onto DVD so she can watch them ...she needs it done now and she wants me to do it.

I haven't a clue where to start!  I've googled tutorials but the results I've had are all very technical, I've looked on Amazon for software and for kit I'd need to do it .....I'm still no wiser...the things I've looked at have reviews from 5 stars from some reviewers to 1 star from others.

I'm hoping someone has done this before and might give me some advice on what products would be good to buy to get a relatively stress free result. I'm not useless at this sort of thing ... but in this area I have no experience at all... so any advice or help would be much appreciated

 Hi ~hoochie~

I am not very technical.

But some years ago I wanted to transfer videos material onto disc.

I first transferred the video stuff to my computer, and from there (in my case using Nero) it put it on disc.
The device I used to transfer video to computer was called DVD Express and was made by AVS
There is an article about it here.

However, I now have a dvd player and recorder with HDD drive and a built in vhs player.
So I can copy from video to hard drive and/or disc all in one machine.
I have just checked  and there are plenty of such machines on the market.
But, the big but, is that you may not wish to buy any new equipment.

Good luck.

I'm not at all techie but do you have any 6th form colleges near you that do Meeeeeja studies?
The college opposite me used to have a large media dept and they were always on the look out for practical projects for the students to do. Your kind of thing would have been the sort of thing they wanted
You could try popping in to a college if you have one nearby and asking if they do that sort of thing.

Fletch ...I think i love you.... i watched the video for this and it looks like exactly what i want .... it seems like it will be reasonably straightforward and intuitive for me to pick up and learn what I need to do ..... really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

i think I'll order this.  if anyone has used it before I'd be interested in any comments
