if it's a big muriel, i'd go for an external gloss, or satin.

Acrylic paints probably best - more difficult to use but bright colours and long lasting.

acrylic is good also broken mirror tiles are great too .... i did one in a seaside theme ....used the mirror bits for the ocean spray ...pretty cool ... mosaic looks good too ....try local hardware store they may give you broken tiles for nothing

PMSL my husband used to extact the urine out of me for calling it that....

I can't not call them muriels anymore.

I have a beautiful dragon made out of rope, but I had him perched near the window and he's faded. Any ideas on what paint I should use to brighten him up?
