I was Just wondering if people keep ornaments and stuff around their homes?

I have never been a keeper of ornaments, my take was that they just make more house work, as in dusting etc.

BUT, all of a sudden I seem to have loads (well 9) in the house, which were acquired after Mr Cinds parents passed on. (8 were inherited, the ninth I bought). Is this how it starts?

Do any of you collect ornaments? And what do you collect, or is it a mismatch of crap?

I have my much loved collections of Poole pottery and Art Deco glass...I will not tolerate naff ornaments though!! If it's not Poole or Art Deco glas, it ain't coming in!!

I also have  about half a dozen or so vintage tea sets which are awaiting the completion of a new display unit in the kitchen....they are sooooo pretty...and I do use them when it's girls only tea time....useful and decorative!!

Ells, your post is exactly why I didn't start with ornaments.  The kids, enough crap to clean up without cleaning extra.

Baz.. I think you are my mother, she collects plates too.  Why?  Do you take them off the wall and clean them?

(I hope that doesn't come across as having a go, it's not)

Tea sets, my mother has some amazing ones, but as gorgeous as they are, all I see is 'extra dusting'.

I'd rather dust them than do my ironing

And often do

I've got a few but not that many really.  Mostly they have been gifts .

My sister, on the other hand, makes up for my lack.  She collects Lladros (sp?) and has a housefull which she can get really snooty about.  I almost died laughing the other night when I was told that the items responsible for the nose in the air snootiness are made by 'apprentices' and are not held in high regard by those who are 'in the know'.

Shall I tell her?

Ironing.  My Mother goes mental at me about not having an 'ironing night'. I'm with you, I'd rather dust than iron, and that is why I keep away from collecting ornaments.

YES   I bet the laughs were about the Lladro figurines.  I have had loads of laughs over people collecting that crap thinking it's 'oooh soo'

I like photographs, but not loads of frames.  I bought a fab multi frame last year, holds 24 pics all in one frame.

maybe I should do that...instead of the loft

I should have added almost every pic in that frame was 'old' pics.  Parents as kids etc.

Heehee, I'll keep that little snippet up my sleeve and drop it into the conversation next time she gets on her high horse.

I used to go to the pound shop every saturday and buy my mum an ornament  She HATED them but did the whole 'ahhh that's lovely, thanks love' bit and put them all up round the house  She told me years later she hated them, I was gutted coz my mate and I (she bought her mum one every week) would walk to town with just ÂĢ2, ÂĢ1 for the ornament, 25p for the taxi home and the other 75p for a battered sausage and a drink

hahah.. in my last house I had a shelf in the hall about the radiator... I felt obliged to put tacky things people brought me from holiday on display somewhere.  My nieces would ptsl laughing at birthdays and christmas if I unwrapped any ornaments (i hate them with a passion) and would mouth 'Is that going on 'THE SHELF')   I have about half a dozen photos about the place, 2 candles, and the only 'ornament' is a Tinkerbell snowglobe on the fireplace because my greatniece chose it and bought it for me herself.

I have a fairly large collection of 'Landrovers' as we called them, inherited from my mum and other deceased relatives. Apart from two small 'bathroom' ones, which I keep out for sentimental reasons, the rest are stored away and I can't see a time when they'll ever see the light of day, other than when I die and my dependants clear my loft out!

Ah, if we are counting pretty/vintage china, art deco jugs etc. etc. have loads of that, but there to be 'used' not 'displayed' and in a closed cupboard, not 'on display' gathering bloody dust!

Mine are definitely real, signed etc. none of that Nao stuff LOL.....Mmmm, wonders if there's a potential market on here to sell it! Having said that, I'd never get rid of the one which was my mum's 'first' a geisha girl with umbrella, a Christmas present from my dad circa 1970, she was so thrilled with it!

I have a few, (v few!) 'sentimental' things out Kaffs which make me smile and bring back lovely memories...same with pictures, unless they have sentimental value there's nothing much that I would particularly want to look at every day. My pet hate is 'matchy' ornaments and pics that have no interest other than they 'go' with the 'colour scheme' Just me, I know, lots of other people like that, no imagination, all show each to their own

No, it's not just you, that drives me nuts! A woman I work with paints a bit, and has potential to be really good, but she insists on asking people's colour schemes when she's doing a painting for them and does it to match
