PLEASE help me and my family and pals to solve a bit of an argument LOL.

You know when you have sent someone a TEXT, you have TEXTED them right??? So how does one pronounce that word? (TEXTED) Is it pronounced like 'blazed' or 'gorged' (ie; ONE SYLLABLE?) OR is it pronounced like the word 'seated?' ie; a TWO syllable word? (so; is it pronounced as TEXT-ED?)

Your views and opinions would be appreciated dear forum members.

I say the one syllable version, but sometimes think I am saying it wrong, but then again, it makes me cringe when someone says text-ed.

-ed is the usual ending for most non-irregulat verbs, and i've never heard the verb "text" described as irregular

got me thinking though Big Grin
You would think wouldn't you? But then the word blazed (my example word) also has 6 letters and an 'ed' at the end, but we don't say
'blaz-ed' do we? (ie a 2 syllable word) Funny one isn't it? Smiler

What about 'farted'?
Maybe the 't' makes all the difference. Glance

Not the 't' as such, but the fact that blaze ends in a vowel and text in a consonant. Smiler

When you say it as 2 sylable you stress both vowels, if you say it as what appears to be one sylable it is infact still 2 sylables just that the 2nd vowel is unstressed and so hardly noticible. Big Grin

Is it actually a verb yet? Glance
Well it is now in the new mobile phone and computer world. It also makes sense that any new verbs are not irregular. I think there is still a natural reluctance to use it as a verb still hence the stumbling over it Big Grin.
