I hate defending the loonier end of the American political spectrum but TBF none of the Bush fambley or Reagan used the big stuff. North Korea exhibits a typical reaction to a crisis of hegemony. One assumes that there is a lot of infighting behind the scenes.

Hegemony is one of my favourite words.
I think China's influence and thoughts will be fascinating in the near future.. And of more import than the US's tbh.

I think that's debatable GJ. Listening to Jeremy Vine today, there are quite a few factions thinking that NK might actually want a unification with SK. Personally, I think that's a bit way out there. Once a lunatic, always a lunatic until someone gets rid of the lunatic, which is not in the foreseeable future of NK. IMHO.
In other words there is a crisis of hegemony.

Well yes, but isn't that the same all over the place?

Not really, no?
One hesitates to use examples because every occurrence is individual but there is no doubt that when strong dictatorships collapse they do it on a large scale, be it the USSR or even Matt Busby's Man Utd. The bigger they are the harder they fall etc.
Sorry! With deference to LL.......... In my opinion.

I do think China is the key though. TBH, they are so powerful, nothing the US or even NATO do in support of S. Korea is going to make a decisive difference. I do wonder if China like to keep Nth Korea as it presently is as a useful tool in their engagement with the world. Their own cash means they can exert power in a capitalist world, Nth Korea's single minded lunacy can serve as a reminder of the darker arts.
