No, BT own and provide the overhead telephone line which allows rainwater to get into where it shouldn't thus cutting not just me but many of the locals off the net. Bad maintenence! Broadband is far, far worse when it's been raining incessantly and not allowing things to dry out.

Also overhead telephone lines are together on the same poles as power lines and the telephone reception and broadband is affected by - amongst other things - timer switches that run electric off peak heating etc. I can set my watch by when the broadband starts acting up each evening, when it settles down again during the night, and starts up again in the morning.

All this has been explained to me by a friend who is an electrician but is now working for BT. He tried to sort out my broadband when I first got it and spent ages on the phone to AOL before realsing what the problems were. Not to mention his boss, the head honcho for BT in the west of Scotland who happens to live across from me and has the same problems as me and also knows the cause. Big Grin They told me to ask BT to do a line check on my line.

Also the man from the place where I bought this laptop, he came out to my house to try and sort it. He too spent ages on the phone to AOL, and he too said to get a line check done by BT as he was convinced that was where the problem lay as he has seen the same problem with all his customers who have overhead telephone lines that are mixed with overhead power lines and he too agreed with my friend that rainwater getting into things makes it worse.

If in a cabled area I'd think about switching to VM..Would eliminate lots of problems; add to which their tech people are bloody good. Fast call out for engineers to rectify faults, AND you don't get charged if a fault is actually present.

PS Sky charge for similar callouts unless you pay them more moollah for insurance

No, no cable here. We're in the wilds of Bonnie Scotland! Big Grin No digital TV, no Cable, crap broadband, no piped gas, but one thing we don't have and we all like is no clean air act! We can burn what the heck we like on our stoves and fires. Thumbs Up

I am not going to contradict people, as I don't know for sure, but I have a suspicion that this is a fake profile. I may be wrong, but it's just a feeling I have. Frowner I WANT it to be real, but I am just not sure...

ONE: the person is protesting too much about people suggesting it's a fake profile. If people suggested MY profile was fake, I would not even answer the accusations, because I would know it wasn't true.

And two, (and the thing that set off alarm bells for me,) is that the profile said he lives in 'Stoke-on-Trent.' He doesn't. He comes a place called Oakley in Market Drayton in Shropshire. He lives 20 miles from me, and was interviewed by my local paper: the Shropshire Star...

It clearly states he lives in Oakley Manor in Oakley, Market Drayton.

And three: it says he got his parents to update his FB when he was in the house and presumably 'add friends' as well. How could they do that? And 'why' would they do that? Did he ask them to do that before he went? As far as I'm aware, people don't know that the person in question is even going into the BB house. They are not allowed to say. So how and why could they/would they update his facebook and 'add friends' on his behalf? The sounds a bit suspicious too.

Yep, his birthdate is correct, but you can get that on wikipedia, and also had his birthday in the BB house. So anyone could get that fact correct.

Sorry Darlo, I don't mean to piss on your bonfire hun, andyou may be right; it may be real... but IMO the fact that this facebook profile has got Freddie's hometown wrong, and also how much the person is protesting that it is not a 'fake profile.' and also how this person is saying that his parents kept his facebook up to date when he was in the BB house, just makes me a tad suspicious. I mean, why would they do that? And how?

Maybe it IS him, who knows? But I am a bit dubious about this profile. If people believe it, then that is their right, but be careful, and don't give out any personal information about yourself.

Just my two cents worth. I am not sure I believe it's him... Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone. I am just very wary of people on the internet.

I'm suspicious that there is a hyphen in his surname. I also can't imagine that he was sitting on a Sat night posting on there, a week after coming out of the house
