I fell asleep last night in the middle of the athletes coming in!

Have just caught up with it now. Completely welled up during the Floyd bit, and the lighting of the Cauldron was fab.

I could have lived without the Queen skit, and obviously without Paul McCartney. Maybe he should have sang Come Together with the Artic Monkeys ... young and old musicians coming together maybe?

Anyhow, overall it was brill

a dire start?

I loved every moment of it .... well Paul McCartney was a bit iffy, but i understand why it was him singing at the end... could've be worse.... Cheryl Cole

A least Chez is eye candy for the lads!

The consensus seems to be that McCartney was a low point.  All the more so, IMO, due to his tiresome repertoire of "Hey Jude", "Get Back", "Let it Be" and "All you need is love" that he always does at big occasion.

Still could have been worse, he could have done "Live and Let Die" like he did for the Queen when Philip was still in hospital.  I know it's only a song, but the lyrical content is just so staggeringly inappropriate, especially considering what he could pick from his back catalogue.
