Michael Johnson did a programme about it - it was on Ch4 a few weeks ago. Apparently in the last Olympics 14 of the last 16 athletes in the 100m final were decendants of slaves. They were often deliberately bred for strength ie . the strongest fittest male with the most powerful female - I only watched a bit of it but it was interesting.
