I really like Alan Wells - he's never really mentioned or seen on Olympic programmes. Is it because it was never seen as a proper victory/gold because of the boycott situation?

Leaping back in here:

There was a very good documentary on just before the Olympics started which traced the history of the 100m, and Wells featured quite a bit in it.

There was perhaps something about his victory being a bit against the run of things at the time (no pun intended!) as he didn't have to face the Americans, but I think the main reason he doesn't get featured so much is because he was the last of an era: he was the the last of the "power" sprinters who dominated the 70s, and he isn't really representative of the tall, long-legged athletes who dominate the event now...
