Does anyone still have theirs?
I am having a bit of a sort out and have found all of my LPs and singles.
They tell a tale - I still have the first single I bought - Donny Osmond "Why" and the last which I think was probably an Elton John one - Sacrifice.
In between I have Mud, Chas and Dave, Black Sabbath, Andrew Gold, Slade and the Wombles - to name but a few.
I could never get rid of them because at the back of my mind is the hope that one day I might find an old record player and then I could listen to them again.

Am I the only one who can't let go of their vinyl or are there others?

Yes, still got loads.

The oldest LP I have (from memory) is With The Beatles, which I knicked off of my Dad, but there's a few more stored away and their names escape me right now. I should go and dig them out.  There's definitely an original Marvin Gaye early album too which I cherished at the time.

Nothing better than going into a 'proper' record store, chatting with the owner about new releases, listening to a few in one of the booths and then spending your time browsing through all the racks.

I still think there's nothing better than owning the actual album.  The sleeve notes used to be a mini novel in themselves.

My brother has all of his old Beatles albums - and all of them tell a tale.
I agree - I remember saving up for LPs and then buying them . You really felt you had something special.
My favourite is "Out of the Blue" from ELO. It was a double album and the second disc was blue.
Apparently that could be a collectors item one day.

I love my vinyl

That said.. happy head on today  cause I just got my paws on a CD version of one of the first albums I ever bought ( the real thing is all bent out of shape and scratched to bits now) Spent the last hour grinning along to Robert Johnson ( not THE Robert Johnson, this is a geeky looking powerpop gawd! ) - Close Personal Friend. Magic!

Love a bit of madness that is ELO.  You should definitely hold on to that album, Issy.

I remember buying Songs In The Key Of Life - I read the sleeve notes until I could almost recite them from memory!  I used to put it on on a Friday night and listen to it whilst getting ready to go out.  It's not his best album but it's one that evokes great memories for me.

I think I did a blog once and we had a giggle over our antiquated old record players.

I went to a vinyl party not too long ago - everyone had to take their favourier vinyl. It was brilliant. I took 'A Night on the Town - Rod Stewart' - Mr Woo took 'Parallel Lines - Blondie' - it was a brilliant night - so many memories.

Great satisfaction    Not quite the same ritual of playing it though as an LP, but it's better than not being able to play an album you like at all.

Remember when they used to do coloured vinyl for 45's...?
I've definitely got a couple that are bright orange.

Yep! Hadn't heard it since I was a teenager, but as soon as I heard the first few bars of each song it was total recall Weird, eh, how some days you can't remember your name but you remember lyrics from all those years ago

Still got mine in a cupboard somewhere. When I was buying vinyl I tended to buy a lot of singles and played them on a knackered turntable, so I doubt they're in pristine condition after so many years.

Hard to believe that a 45rpm single with at most two B-sides was almost a week's pocket money and now is a small fraction of what music kids can purchase with their pocket money.  Without sounding like an old git, there was more emotional attachment to a vinyl record and seeing a group perform your song on ToTP, although of course, such things made more impression on a younger mind.  Another thing you could do with vinyl was just look at an LP and make a fair estimate of how long each track would last.

I agree with ~Cosmopolitian~ about physical item that was a vinyl recording.  The artwork, the type of paper, sleave notes, if there was an inner sleeve.  TBH, I've long lost interest in artwork and sleeve notes but a single or album in the vinyl era was more of a unique item.

Does anyone remember stacking the singles up on top of each other and then when one finished the next would drop down and play?

Yes and Yes..!
Used to lose the middles and send my mum crazy moaning about it.
And if you stacked more than 8 singles they used to slip like slippy things and sound hilariously distorted.
