WHAT? where was I in the 80 then? cause I seem to remember a certain female whose name I now think is a swear word, firstly setting out to castrate the unions in order to ensure that the ordinary working man and woman were powerless, and then allowing her fat cat pals to set up their industrial production in the far east in order to take advantage of the near slave labour, and therefore very cheap workforce/s out there,
Many is the time I remember listening to managers telling us that they had NO CHOICE other than to move their production abroad in order to "save" the company. "so sorry, you are all being let go", (about 8 times I heard that bollocks)
and there was nothing we could do about it because our unions had been castrated, hey ho and many years later these companies are still doing quite well thank you, but they ain't employing many of US any more, oh they keep a token few on so they can still say they are a British company,
Now I am no fan of "new" labour they certainly are a LONG way from the labour party I want, BUT, having said that thanks to the labour party, when I did get a job I was entitled to working tax credits and this at least, for a while, made going to work have some sort of reward to it,(like a wage I could actually live on) rather than my time under the Tories where the pay was so low the ONLY thing the job did was get me out of the house for a few hours a day.
I have everything to thank the unions for, and so do most of us, but of course we could just talk about the propaganda image of the "union man" with his strange compulsion to destroy the very industry that provides him with his livelihood, not the person trying to do the best they can for their members,
lets face it, WITHOUT the trades unions we would still be working a 27 hour day in t mill getting up half an hour before he went to bed AND paying t mill owner for the privilege, kids up mines n down chimneys unequal pay for women, no sick pay no paid holidays no health and safety, yeah the unions, bastards they are,...... if you are either a multi millionaire business man, or have ya head up ya arse

Further to my original post, a parliamentary committee has today expressed concern over this government's policy on anti-terrorism laws and the potential for the resulting abuse of human rights in this country. See BBC article

Although the government quite rightly has concerns over the possibility of terrorist attacks, my concern is that they can use these concerns to introduce measures which have the potential to lead to abuse even if unwittingly.
