LowonIQ, experience tells me that it's poor practice to post a note to everyone that essentially says "don't use these two words" as that more often than not that message gets translated to "here is a challenge to you to find a way to creatively use these words as often as possible" by far too many people.  I'd sooner not offer anything that can be used as encouragement
Dave, my point is that it is easier to keep to rules if you know what they are. I have little forum experience, I'm just thinking about it from RL situations.
btw was just off again, really not pleased.

Oh, I understand. But think of 2 things -

I shouldn't have to make a sign that says don't use these two words, they're really not acceptable in a public setting.

RL situations often do not apply. Most of the goings on here would never happen in RL. In RL people never say the tings to each other that they do here, they never use words that they do here. There are a (very) few that take the anonymity of these forums to an absolute extreme, and for these same people posting NOT to do something is an open invitation asking them TO do something.

So, if most people don't use these words, and posting a sign is an encouragement to those certain few, I err on the side of my experience, and try not to offer the encouragement.

Absolutely Dave... this is a public setting and although a lot of us know each other well and understand our tolerances of such things, as in RL, many don't. It would be like shouting those words in a shopping precinct/mall rather than with friends in a room where you know what you can say.

Dave, I accept your point, you err on the side of caution and don't want to encourage the use of banned words.  I also don't want certain language used. I would like it to be a place where everyone can feel comfortable and not intimidated by anyone.

I don't like banning people. I've banned a far number fewer than I'm given credit(?) for.  I think that is true of all the mods.
It's OK Dave... I'm sure you've all noticed how we began to moderate ourselves when we came here... the freedom we were given having felt a bit gagged was a bit mad at first but I think you must acknowledge we all toned down after the initial madness. You all dealt with it brilliantly.

Dave-- on a serious note. Could you post a thread explaining who does what on here, and wether or not you are full or part time employees? We hear of Chris and Steve and and Lori, Rosemary ,Ted etc; but would love to know the structure of this place, it's history and all you folk.
Certainly.  There used to be something like that on the website.

Found it!

Any of the mods you run into here are full time company employees. None of us are full time moderators, we all have real functions within the company. We all volunteered to moderate when C4 notified us that their forums were to close. We took it pretty hard watching such a huge community that we had hosted for some many years being shut down. Many of us here volunteered to moderate in between job duties. Some do it over coffee in the morning, some over lunch. I squeeze in time whenever I can.

(as a side note, the C4 people that we worked with on a day to day basis were purely devastated at the loss of their forums)

Most of us are listed on that page that I linked, but for those of us not ... I work in Client Management and Operations. I'm on the phone all day with clients, fulfilling their needs and coordinating with our staff to make all of the client's ideas come to life. It's great watching ideas become designs and specs then reality!

Steven is one of our developers.  He has the challenging part of taking someone's design or idea and then making it work.

I remember all these things having been said Dave.

So right this time fellow FMs... Dave is taking out time to hang out with us and answer questions because they are interested in us and care... I think! Well... apart for the robbers amongst us...
