I've got built in Freeview on my bedroom tele but I suppose you need the box to be able to do that?

Yep, but don't you need to pay a premium to get the Sky+ box to Sky+?  A Freeview PVR is essentially pretty much the same as Sky+, programs are recorded to an internal hard disk over a twin tuner.

Had my Humax Freeview PVR for around five years and it's one of the best bits of electronic kit I've ever bought.  Also used a DVD recorder, but I've had two of those, and both had never come close to the ease and reliability of the PVR, DVD recordings often fail in my experience.

I've just been talking to my brother and apparently there's a way to get all your Sky HD/+ channels on another tele in the house without the need for another subscription or box. It's some kind of receiver thing? (He did say what it was but I can't remember). But if I get that then I'll be able to record stuff on the DVD player. Sorted!

Have I got that PVR ?

Wot is it

Personal Video Recorder

Basically a Freeview or Freesat decoder with an internal hard drive to record onto rather than tapes or discs.

So! is my Toshiba DVD Recorder with inbuilt Freeview one of them ?

I remember that, but I thought it was her tights, it's so long ago now I'm probably wrong and confusing it with the joke about 'how to make a womans toes curl'

Ohhhh, you could be right - I may have to google ...

I don't know that joke - do tell

I'll put it as politely as I can.

Q. How do you make a womans toes curl?

A. Do her while she's still got her tights on.

No, it's a DVD recorder, unless it's also got a built in hard drive, as some DVD recorders now have.  Can you record onto a internal hard drive and then transfer those recordings to DVD if you want?  If so, it's a PVR/DVD recorder.

Then it's a duel DVD Recorder/PVR by the sound of it!
