Serious point. If I came on here and made sweeping generalisations about the Irish I would be (quite rightly) heavily condemned. Could you tell me then why it is OK to keep making sneering comments about the English?

I haven't gone all the way back through this thread but this is a sample. I am not, Temps, trying to stir trouble. I am trying to ask quite politely why the English are so insulted and by so many Irish FM's and that includes you Temps. I have a good sense of humour and am more than ready to laugh at myself but this sniping at the English is beginning to grate.quote:that is the arrogance of the english i'm afraid.
She should be bowing down to O'Gara!!!And if she meets the BOD she'd better bow down and lick his shoes *nods*
This is tongue in cheek as these 2men are viewed as God in Ireland, hardly anti-english now!!

That phrase often comes to mind, when reading your threads. Are you sure you're not an Irish American? *peers closely at IP* Don't you have ANY non - Irish - related topics to discuss?

Squiggle, i don't knock your nationality or fellow countrymen. The Queens in my opinion is a non-entity, and I'm sorry but i abhore the Monarchy and all they stand for for resons explained previously, but as you say each to their own. I don't think the Irish FMs intentionally mean to knock the English but if it happens it's not personaly alot of Irish people still harbour a lot of hurt and anger about events that happened in the past, it can easily be brushed over by saying it was 100s of years again but that doesn't heal the wounds. Anyway I didn't want this thread to turn into a thread like that I just wanted to speak about how laughable it is this made front page News.

I hear what you say Irish Princess and, as I said, I am not trying to cause trouble. But I do think that continually portraying any nationality as arrogant is unacceptable. I have often read posts (especially from Irish FM's) that read this way and of course you can say its all tongue in cheek but I think the joke is wearing thin now. On the whole I like the Irish but please stop knocking my nationality and my fellow countrymen. I feel sad at the reference to the Queen as I have the utmost respect for her and think she has done a wonderful job, but I respect anyone's right to think differently in this respect. Live and let live please.

I have a lot actually, check out my posting history. Thuis wasn't even about the Irish it was about the incident and I would have posted it if ROG was Irish, English or Other. Also, its not really that strange that an Irish person talks about Irish things is it.

I'm Irish and as a long term reader of the OP's posts, you have a fair point to object to the general tone, which is very obviously beligerent sometimes. I understand your position also. Its the same for us in reverse. The Irish are great at laughing at themselves - but if another nationality, especially the English, mocks them, its very different, and really rankles.

Don't apologise for abhorring the monarchy - a more bigoted, racist and sectarian group of people you couldnât wish to meet.
Never mind 100's of years, there has always been (and still is if truth be told) an element of anti Irish sentiment amongst the Brits.

Garage Joe what I mean is what is the point of the Royal Family? Did someone just decide one day they would just be King and all their future family will be royals? I just despise it because these people have done nothing to earn their status yet the public pay to keep them.

Can I just gently point out Jasmine that, as far as I remember, you are a Brit? Being Scottish that is.
