Oy, git away from meh, Barnie! I'll not be swabbin' any decks! I'm the ship's surgeon after all! I've earned mah stripes since startin' as carpenter, 'aven't I??
*Looks around* Whar's that scum, WarrenPeace? I got some questions for 'im. He got a suspicious interest in keys, don't he now? Askin' me fer the spare key for the Cap'n's cabin, and now poor Cap'n is DEAD!!
And I be lookin' for that Britworth-Jones, too. He been showin' an unnatural interest in the booty ledger, if you ask me.

aye disgusting *pours another*
Nail on the head Mrs B and are you another stowaway?
Right, looks like the posh bloke who's been swannin' around here like he's the master and commander of all is actually nowt but a footman to the bloke he's pretendin' to be.
Or sumat like that anyways.
Ol' Barnie the Bulleh seems to have the monopoly on relatives in all places. I must see about gettin' my cousin in for when I need a rest. And it turns out that he has a worse reputation than me. No-one has ever offered me 20 Guineas for head.
Yu Lie appears to be an alcoholic sorceress, not a good combination. And she can't give a straight answer. Or not one that I can understand anyways.
Eave turned out to be a girl dressed as a bloke. I saw a fortune teller once, they predicted that one of my descendants would fall in love with a man who was a woman. I hope they didn't get it all mixed up cos that Eave ain't my type at all.
That Sophie wench isn't the type you'd expect to see here. Wonder what really went on between her and the dearly departed? Just thinking of the possibilities makes my guts turn, his oral hygiene left a lot to be desired by all accounts, so I can't imagine Snooty Sophie dirtying up her pretty mouth with his. But you never can tell, the sea air can affect you in some strange ways.
Gayle Force, windy by name, windy by nature. But that could just be the diet on board. Must remember to ask him/her about the key cutting lark, seems a couple of these heathens were after keys.
Warren Peace is an odd 'un, have no doubt. What would he want with a key to the Captain's Cabin? I know he's nosier than that wench from the local parchment rag, but surely he wouldn't dare snoop, would he? He sure don't look brave enough for that.
And Sassy Cassy, used to better things yet reluctant to jump ship. Just why does she stay???
I need more grog.
Me brain hurts.
Nail on the head Mrs B and are you another stowaway?
you need to lay off the grog mate, you be talkin' to yerself there.

Well. Ah suppose Ah had best tell y'all the truth about me and ol' Inky. He was a huge help to me and my business ventures and Ah had several new transactions in the pipeline that he was verreh kahndly assitin' me with. Ah'm afraid his tragic death could ruin me if Ah'm not careful.
*sobs*

Ah have a business in town, a verreh good business. Ah supply the rich gentlemen of the area with beautiful jewellery and trinkets for their wives and lady friends. You know how us ladies just love pretty, sparklin' things. Ah was considerin' expandin' mah business to maybe supplyin' pretty things for the home and the such like, there were so many possibilities we were goin' to explore. He didn't help me with money, that much Ah can say. He was more of a 'buyer' for me, if you get mah meanin'.
Gayle Force ya old windbag were be thee??

I have to go now so if you see that bilge rat Gayle Force tell them to slip those questions on a note and put it under my hammock and I'll be back on the morrow to answer them Arrrrrrgh!

Did I miss that scum Peace, again??!?! I been workin' on this here tub, tryin' to make her shipshape, doncha know. I may be the ship's surgeon, but SOMEone has to keep this tub afloat, and the Cap'n ne'er replaced me as carpenter.
Leave 'im a note, you say? Well, I s'pose I can do that. *Removes pencil from behind ear, and searches for a piece o' parchment*
*scribbles* TWO QUESTIONS, PEACE:
1. WHY DID YOU NEED A KEY TO THE CAP'N'S CABIN??
2. WHAT ABOUT THAT CONVERSATION YOU OVERHEARD THAT NIGHT ON DECK WATCH?
xieng ho
Gayle force - do you think ye ship s'goin to sink???
No, no, this tub ain't gonna sink. I be makin' sure o' that, don' chew worry.
Oy, git away from meh, Barnie! I'll not be swabbin' any decks! I'm the ship's surgeon after all! I've earned mah stripes since startin' as carpenter, 'aven't I??
Carpenter eh?!?
So you'd be knowing how to make a copy of a key eh? A copy of key to , lets say...the Cap'n cabin door?
How much had you been offered for one of them?
My skills run more to wood than to metal, Barnie.
Only thing I know about a key is that scum Peace asked me about extra keys to the Cap'n's cabin--that's why I been chasin' him up and down these here decks for an answer as to WHY!
Still wondering why Yu lie found it necessary to mention the loss of her key to her small cabin & did anything go missing or get disturbed in there??

Arrrrgh! you bilge rat who be you calling scum?? I got lost on the way here as I didn't read the sign posts indicating this here place had been stickied arrrgh!
In answer to your questions - I will tell ee
1) I had a very good reason for having a key to the Capt'n's cabin arrrrgh! He had some mighty fine navigational equipment so he did. Now as ye all know the Capt'n didn't let anyone look at the Blackbird's log - kept that very close to his chest. He asked me if I would look after these pieces of precious equipment in his cabin and lock them away, hence the key. Well some thieving scurge broke in and stole the equipment!!!!! The spare compass and the charts of Hispaniola were gone who and why would anyone want them??? Well you can imagine how please the Capt'n was when I told him that news - he threatened to stretch my neck he did
2) Now as you all know the Capt'n had secrets and that Capt'n Black had more than most As I said earlier, three months ago on night watch I heard some voices a whispering in the dark. I saw the figures of two crew mates but t'was too dark to see who they were. They were discussing how to get the Capt'n to surrender the treasure map. They knew it was valuable and t'was hidden somewhere on board the Blackbird. They spoke of horrible torture such as burying the Capt'n up to his neck in sand or killing his parrot in front of him So you see t'was very important for me to find that map before anyone else
*twitches nervously* did ye hear that????? There's more but I'll not tell ee till late when there's less ears listening in the dark arrrggghhh!!

Good luck getting an answer you can understand!!
If you do get an answer, will you please translate it for me?

Right Mr Peace, why would the Captain trust ye te look after his prized possessions when, accordin# to Snooty Sophie, he didn't trust ye at all? That he hated ye followin' him around and snoopin'? In fact, she went as for as to say that he would happily watch ye and yer book walk the plank. And IF he had asked you to do this, surely he would have supplied ye with a key and ye wouln't have been botherin' Gayle for a key? Just a thought.
Didn't ye recognise the voices of the plotters? Surely a man so of yer intellect could do that? And if they was a whisperin', how did ye hear them?? Seems ye are as nosey as the Captain said.
Hao Vi

Has that Yu Lie worked her strange magic on ye and got ye a talkin' like her now?

OK, OK, calm yerself, Peace. I kin wait.
*waits*
I was thinking in me hammock whilst swinging the time away.. I really need to sort out who could have got the dagger that ended up in the wrong chest if the Cap'n, not everyone could have had access to it, least of all little innocent me.....

What the hell does that Silly Soppy Snooty Sophie know about anything?? She knows lots about nothing that girl I did follow him around tis true but as I explained I was going to base my book on him - kind of!!!
As for the Capt'n he didn't trust no one but he felt he needed to protect his navigation equipment - I guess he thought I was more trustworthy than the rest of the crew Besides do you really believe that Gayle Force blunderbuss had a key??? The Capt'n was up to sommat that's for sure and I think it something that got him done in
As for not being able to guess who the plotters were - they were whisperin' girlie, whisperin' and haven't you noticed that all pirates sound the same with their arrrrr and avast me hearties and shiver me timbers - all sounds the same to me

The Cap'n trusted Yu Lie ing toe rag more than anyone, if he be letting her into the treasure room with all his booty and jewels, why would he not be trusting her with a compass
Yarrr and mind the plank

BLUNDERBUSS?!?!?! Who are YOU callin' a "blunderbuss"??!? YOU can't even hold yer grog!! I seen you pukin' over the side when you think nobody's lookin'. You're a shameful excuse for a sailor, and if'n you AIN'T a sailor, you don't belong on board this here vessel!! You best be a mite more careful around me, or I be givin' you some of dat "elective surgery".
*in a more reasonable tone*
You be havin' a point about the key, though: I never said I HAD A key--I said you ASKED me for one.

Yikes!!! I don't think I'd like this elective surgery stuff *wibble* did I ask you for a key?? Mebbe I did, mebbe I didn't
Well let's be honest here, I did follow that there Capt'n cos I thought he might lead me to the map before the others got to it. You know it would have come in very useful. I could have had the booty myself and set up on a small Caribbean island and written my book - I love writing about swashbucklers and the like but in all earnest I'd rather write about canon fire than be anywhere near it
