I have never watched a film with sub titles.

The only ones I watch are cos it's in the curriculum unfortunately. But recently I watched "Amelie" and it's well weird dunno how obscure it is though.

Life is Beautiful is one of my fave films ever. I like foreign language films especially French, South American and orignal Japanese horror films

I enjoyed "let the right one in" even though when I bought it I had no idea it was in Swedish with subtitles. I also enjoyed "the passion of the christ" even though it was a Mel Gibson Hollywood-overdramatised-version of events

Apocalypto is also very good. Like Veggie I do love Life is Beautiful..., I think the last subtitled film I watched was La Vie en Rose....the Efith Piaf film. I'd recommend that to anyone.

Un homme et Une Femme (A Man and a Woman)

Very sensual film. 
A man and a woman meet by accident on a Sunday evening at their childrens' boarding school. Slowly they reveal themselves to each other, finding that each is a widow/widower. Each is slow to reveal anything personal so that each revelation is hidden by a mis-perception. They become friends, then close friends, and then she reveals that she can't have a lover because, for her, her husband's memory is still too strong. Much of the film is told wordlessly in action, or through hearing one of their thoughts as they go about their day

Great tune in it from Francis Lai.

The original version of Quarantine was excellent (I can't remember what it was called now). I loved Battle Royale. I doubt that film would have had the same effect if it wasn't for crazy oriental people going completely loopy in the way only they can 

I'm going to track down The Host to see what kept Ditty up till 5 am. I also liked Let The Right One In but not as much as everyone else seemed to. I've got Pan's Labyrinth to watch which I've heard great things about but haven't seen yet. 

A good film is a good film you lose nothing by watching with subtitles as long as the translation is faithful to the original script. It would be a great shame to miss out on some excellent films just because you couldn't hear the actors speaking in English imho.

Does anyone remember a foreign film about a telephone box that used to trap people and then they would be taken away to this large warehouse where there were loads of other telephone boxes with people in?
I can't remember what it was called but it was a weird film.

I love amelie its one of my favourite ever films, also loved run lola run. Loved pan's labyrinth. Does the passion of the christ count? I liked that for what its worth.  Subtitles dont put me off films, when i lived abroad they used to show american films that had been dubbed then had english subtitles, it was all very odd, they particularly liked giving brad pitt a very deep masterful voice.

My friend said "watch pans labyrinth, its really good... fairytale ish, like labyrinth" 

so I watched it

and rang her up the next day & told her that was NOT a fairytale...  that was a scary nightmare!

It is a really fascinating dark adult type fairytale i think I loved it, although it took me the whole film to decide that i did love it and didnt hate it.

I had to watch most of it through my fingers.... & from behind a cushion.

no happy ending!     In fact, if I remember rightly it was one of those annoying Shutter Island/Inception style "open" endings...

Ohh no you cant believe shes deeed at the end (cant actually remember what the other option was now ) BUT whatever it was i went with that one...then i thought of a happy place

I really hate open endings.. 

I like a nice concluding happy ending!

I've seen a few films with scouse actors but no subtitles so I can't actually tell you if they were any good or not but at least I gave them a go.
