Just do what I did when I was a little girl and we never got to go.  I used to stand in the kitchen with my nightie pulled up over my head and get my sister to spin me as fast as she could, then eat a minging hot dog next to a running engine. Sorted

Although the NE news reporting it made me laugh with the line "for most Geordies the arrival of the Hoppings meant the arrival of the summer".  No, it meant the arrival of the rain. It almost always rained when the Hoppings were here.

But it is sad that its no more.

nooooo!!! what happened?!

It's something to do with the show people and rental of the field.

I'm sad that the tradition is over, but glad that I didn't have to spend a months mortgage on buns stuffed with a mush of lips, hooves and arseholes.

But hey, I can always relive it, by lifting my nightie over my head and getting Mr C to spin me around.  (Actually that sounds like Friday night to me)

Soozy, your hopping was that collecting the hops for beer making?

Yes ..........my nan used to go for her 'holiday' every year and take my cousin with her. He used to get out of weeks of school (as did a lot of kids) - we used to visit for the day a few times in the school holidays. TBH a day was enough - the huts and open fires were kind of fun and there was great 'cameraderie' I knew most of the other Hoppers as they were all local.

The toilets used to make me heave though - as I say - exciting for the day.

Soozy Woo
