If you go into the bank ask them to issue one because it's an emergency. The OH got one in 24 hrs that way.
If your bank is stroppy, then get one of those cards that you put money on for holidays etc...that should work as well for you

Just a suggestion but have you thought of something like a Tuxedo card, where you can put money on it and use as a normal bank card, they are like pay as you go, I have one and just transfer money on to it at the local shop and it's great, very useful for holidays and stuff like that where you don't want to use your bank card. I use mine on shopping trips where I just put some money on it and then can leave my bank card at home and then I am not tempted to overspend!!
They cost 4.95 and are pretty quick being delivered and you can do it online which may even make it quicker.

I do know that the day cards you get for the London Underground can stop working if near your mobile...at least that's what we were told by a ungerground employee when one of ours stopped woring last time were in London.
