While I applaud it and will be doing one myself (I curse the one who nominated me!) I am sitting here thinking is there really a lack of awareness when it comes to cancer??
I mean I'm pretty sure almost everyone has been touched by it on some level?

I don't think there is now and you are probably right, some of us have on more than one occasion.
I've seen some of these celebrity no make-up selfies and they clearly still have some make-up on which for me slighlty compromises the point.
But well done to you Jen for getting involved
I agree EC, even on some of the more vain friends ones they are obviously still wearing a little make up.
I was just grumping about this on FB I just don't see the link between a no makeup selfie and cancer awareness. These things go round now and then, and if you see a pic with a pink ribbon or something I'd think 'oh yeah, breast cancer awareness' - I see a pic of someone with no makeup and don't automatically think cancer awareness
My daughter did it last night and not a drop of make up in sight

I agree with Saz.
Maybe if was a sponsored no make up for charity idea, with a direct link to Cancer Research donation page, that would be better?
Stupid idea!!! I put make up on before I go on Skype

I just shared this which makes more sense like you say
Jeebus! I just shared a link about raising money and getting involved with voluntary work for Marie Curie and was shot down in flames.
I too am well aware of cancer, as my husband died of lung and brain cancer in my arms. My brother- in- law died of bowel and secondaries whilst I was holding his hand. So it seems some people are entitled to their opinion, but others are not.
I fail to see how not wearing makeup makes people aware of cancer. Each to their own, but I wish people didn't jump on their soapbox to shout us with different opinions down.
These people who are posting slefies are missing the point.....you're also supposed to donate money to Cancer Research as well as posting the selfie with no make up but most are just posting the selfie so it doesn't actually help the cause.

A cancer charity has seen a surge of donations after an online campaign to try and raise awareness of breast cancer has gripped social media.
and the guys are putting it on
Rachel Horkan submitted a photo of her 12-year-old brother Zach, while Martin Helliwell, 29, from Lancashire, piled on the slap to raise awareness.

Not that I'm on FB these days, but I agree.

Yeah that's more like it.
This is added to the top of both my daughter's selfies...and I'm sorry but I think every little helps.
Make-up free selfie, sorry guys you have Leanne ****** to thank. I nominate Fiona ******* and Deborah *****. And please text BEAT to 70099 to donate ÂĢ3 to cancer research
That's the part that's missing from a lot of the ones on my fb dame.....the donation part One of my other friends posted today that you are also supposed to donate and the amount of people who commented saying they didn't know that part was ridiculous! I suppose it is all for awareness but the donation is the most important thing, I think.

It's a shame they don't post the message with it...so far about 80 have donated from one of my daughters friends list Ells, I don't know how many off my other daughter's. Maybe now its getting into the media they will realise they should post the flipping message with it Cancer research UK have said they have had an unprecedented number of text donations in the last 24 hours, and that must be a good thing,
Jen at least your guy has the breast awareness ribbon, very good design
Yes it's all good if Cancer Research benefit from it so as long as people donate then there's no reason to complain

some won't because they just won't get the reason behind it, like a lot ignore the pink ribbon...but the more that do the better Ells.

You know, people are criticised for being narcissistic for posting a normal selfie, but people who do that without the message etc are even worse http://behindthewires.wordpres...elp-cancer-research/
Yesterday evening all the new ones that appeared on my feed had the message to donate money, and people saying they had donated, so at least that's 'part' of it now I suppose...

The 'i'm doing my bit without parting with a penny' springs to mind.
I donate to cancer charities, having lost my beloved Dad to a brain tumour. I just dont wish to inflict show my no make up horror of a bare face to the public thank you very much........

i've seen loads of pics of people who normally wouldn't dream of posting a pic of themselves without full slap and they're all donating.....much more powerful message than a pink ribbon imo

So have I but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,can I be honest? I'm getting sick to death of the .................'you're beautiful babe' and 'absolutely gorgeous hun' comments. I'm afraid ............I don't get it TBH.
So they post a selfie and donate?

But without the written message about donating to a cancer charity, what is it about a 'no make up' picture that has a link to cancer awareness?

Well you could say what has a pink ribbon got to do with cancer awareness: it's a symbol. All of the ones I have seen do have the msg and I like the fact that people who wouldn't normally dream of posting a make-up free pic, especially a close up selfie are braving it out and ditching any vainness. I think it's powerful and a lot of money has been donated as a result
The recent no make up selfie craze has helped raise more than ÂĢ2 million for the charity in just 48 hours.
Put it this way though:-
The pink ribbon, twisted in that specific way, was formulated specifically as a symbol to represent awareness of breast cancer - you don't see that exact use anywhere else. However, a person's face (with or without make-up) is a common sight, with no specific links or meaning. Posting it with a written message about a particular subject isn't really going to change that overall 'a-face-doesn't-have-a-spcific-meaning' IMO.

Fair enough, no point disagreeing about, if it's raised awareness and a load of money, that's all that matters imo

It is the craze though, not actually the 'selfie' itself that has raised the money. If it han't become a craze, the 'selfie' alone wouldn't have done it. IMO
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against raising the money in whatever manner, I just don't get the point of what a 'no make-up selfie' is supposed to do for the campaign.

and a lot of husbands and boyfriends have donated too, which I doubt they would to the pink ribbon... I think its been a fabulous boost Supes
