Stiff upper lip and all that! I feel well sorry for myself at times, but there are always people who have it far worse than me.
There was a young woman (age 23) that died on my unit a few weeks ago, and an elderly man who decided he had had enough and discountinued treatment. He was a lovely man and made a point of having one of the nurses come round to tell me good bye.
I have travelled 40 miles to the hospital with people who are receiving treatment for cancer, who have had limbs amputated, who are unable to speak because of disease/cancer and I feel guilty when I moan.
One thing I have discovered though, is a new look at life and the world around me. I get more of a thrill from watching my lettuces pop up and my tomatoes flowering.
suzi i didnt know any of this
good luck to you

Thanks everyone
Believe me, I could go on and on and on and on - and usually do. I guess I'm just feeling a bit emotional today - those young boys coming home in coffins, puts a lot of things in perspective for me.
I'm not dead, yet!

Ask not for whom the bell tolls . . .
That's what makes me laugh at some of the posts of the "young 'uns" who ridicule those above the age of 40. Do they not realise that they, too, are getting older?
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I won't get out of this life alive.

The strangest things make me smile though - a couple of years ago, before Christmas, I was in the pound shop and they were playing Christmas tunes. A little girl, about 3 years old stopped in the middle of the aisle, listened for a bit and then started dancing. It brought a huge smile to my face and I thought how wonderful it would be if we all took a moment or two to just stop and listen to the music and do a little dance.
Sorry, I'm waffling again.

I am a soppy old cow and it doesn't take much to get me going! Ask Cinds!
I couldn't even go into that emotional song thread, I would be sobbing for days! If anyone needs a mourner for a funeral, just give me a call. I would have the whole congreation going in 2 minutes!
The jammy dodger is consigned to forum history .quote:Originally posted by queenshaks:quote:Originally posted by CaptVimes:I could go for fan of biccies hmmm.quote:Originally posted by queenshaks:quote:Originally posted by CaptVimes:

I love the way kids are so free and innocent - reminds me a bit of Freddie. That's what I don't understand about kids wanting to grow up so fast - they have years and years ahead of them to be staid, they should enjoy being daft and carefree.
Me? I'll always be a bit daft!

I know how you feel about the leavers. I worked at a Deaf school in the states for 17 years - classroom assistant with Deaf/Blind kids, and then school secretary and interpreter after that. I also directed the annual school plays, and every year I organised the graduation ceremony and coached the graduates in their leaving song. I was a bloody mess!
Someone would always leave me a box of tissues in the seat next to me. It was wonderful to see the young people that I had worked with grow into young adults, but I was always sad to see them leaving me!

Me too! My boys are adults now, and it's fun to chat about what they did and what they thought about what I did.
