Do not talk to me about flat pack!! i recently had a bit of a nightmare with it!

We had this to put together a couple of weeks ago in a small room paid 20 quid in delivery costs and they didnt even take the boxes up the stairs (i found myself opening them and taking it up it by bit!)

Took 2 days to get right

So i applaud your savy ways... wish i'd thought of it!!

Sorry to hear this Jen- Delivery cost us 40 odd quid and they were a great couple of lads that came. Just hope the assembly guy lives up to my expectations.

My lat flat pack was a nightmare- that's why we opted for them to assemble it. I may be dumb but i know when to let the pro's do the job.

I will get my son to  take pics of the finished article. He has the mobile with a decent camera. Me - i cant get used to mobiles as i have a job seeing the buttons on them Have had 2 mobiles with credit on them and hardly ever used them but when i went to use them found they had cut me off £ 12 quid on one and £8 quid on the other. Feck them taking my money without giving it back, and just for not using it???????

Hi Tori I bought bedroom furniture when I moved in the summer I was told I had to wait 28 days for delivery I paid extra to get it delivered in a week, I opted for it to be assembled it cost me £200,my son and son in law went mad and said they would have done it..I think they were secretly glad though as it can be a nightmare and time consuming  ..it was worth every penny the chap did a fantastic job I was very pleased ..it was four pieces of bedroom furniture I thought the price was very reasonable

Hiya Marge The price might be more and we think we can do it ourselves but they do it everyday day ( without having to read the instructions) I think we will pleased with the results Hope you and ( is it Angus or Hamish ) are well. Sorry i have a memory like a sieve.

Well the fitters arrived at 8am - 2 of them it took them till 4-30 this afternoon when they finished. They fasten all the wardrobes together and fasten them to the wall- we asked about this and they said with them being so tall (8ft) they have to do this else they could topple on you, and it would in-validate the guarantee ( 10 years ) They did a great job and the result looks fantastic. They are so big i may move into one with me lappy. The drawers are silent shut ie- they shut by themselves when you close them to within 2 inches, and the wardrobe doors are the same. Glad they did the job as it would have taken weeks to put them all together. Came at a cost though-  £275 but it was worth it to same me a load of stress. Will put up some pics if i can. A happy bunny this evening.

Sounds like 10 years of stress free bargain to me Tori, and you can go to bed tonight knowing it is over and you are not still looking for the "Missing Bits" 

Oh heaven forbid there's a missing screw! 

Or you used a long screw instead of a short screw, hours later as the sun is rising, neighbours can hear your shouts of............I need a long Screw!!!!!!!!!!! 

I have never uttered anything like that before Sydlers    Mind you, there's a time and place for everyone and everything I think  

I've been following this posting with interest. I am considering some flat-packed Ikea furniture myself, but it's a big purchase. I feel suitably reassured now so think its worth the bit extra for them to assemble it. I'm pleased you are happy with the results.

I have come unscrewed many a time with flatpacks.....I have knelt on screws, used the wrong size screws, and don't talk to me about washers.....see I am getting stressed just remembering the two Cabin beds all those years ago......

Hello Twinkle   If you can...go for the ready assembled stuff. (Though I'm not sure that Ikea do that but other places do. That's even better 

I tell you what it makes a hell of a difference having two peeps to do it instead of leaning the 'sort of put together' pieces against the settee to see how it goes

Believe me sproot, sometimes, just sometimes, "Doing it by Yourself" is easier, save hours of arguing about the missing screw!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Begs to differ*  I'd imagine it's good to have someone to hold the bits up for you while you can get it screwed 

My daughter always knows to go out the house when i'm building furniture  i'm saving hard at the moment for new furniture for her room and i'm getting it ready built this time 

That certain "Someone" should be a silent "Holder Upper", who does not ask questions, ask when we are stopping to eat, or moan when I drop a piece that he should be "Holding Up" on his delicate foot!

I agree - it is a minefield - we've fallen out many a time over flat pack furniture but Mr woo would rather cut his own throat than pay out £250 to have someone do it for him 

Although we've had mega rows over flat packs - it doesn't even come close to rows over my map reading skills (or lack of them) - i swear the invention of Sat Nav saved our marriage!

No buts, you set off on a journey you should know where you are going, I am just there to admire the scenery or sleep...no ifs or buts.

I know it's sad but .............I really and truly haven't a clue how to read a map. If there were evening classes I'd go honestly I would. It took me years to realise that you didn't simply just turn to the next page - I'd be doing great till we ran off the page - it just seemed logical to turn over! I'd be like whaaaaaaat  where the hell are we>? I do think map reading skills should be taught.

What about a mystery tour?

I am all for mystery tours (Unless it is somewhere I need to be) love being driven about without a care in the world..

We have been married for 35 years and he has finally got the message that reading of any kind in the car makes me sick, so he now plans the route (carefully) without the need for a sidekick. 

Tsk! He should have read the map at home, or wait until it is safe to pull over and consult the map.........as I have said on many occasions "What would you do if I wasn't here?"

Quit right! My role in the car is to go oooooooooooh mind, careful, slow down, break, look out - I'm far too busy to read maps! Mr Woo has no idea how lucky he is to have me as co pilot!
