I did JB....they have some very beautiful ones to boot too.....I'd like to see all canal routes open & ready to use for anyone......not likely I know
My vision would be to have a pub/restaurant situated on a lock.....

Respect to you Lori....I've had a few hairy moments...but at 4mph one can even take the stress in a stride

That's so true!! But some people get kinda snippy about the locks, don't they?

Only if they allow themselves....I love the locks!

We broke down a while back & hand to hand pull the boat back through several locks.....most folk were real helpful.....as in life there are always those that think otherwise...I tend to ignore those folk

my mum was following one of those 'line maps' that show all the locks and bridges as we  navigated  along the grand union,  and instead of taking the direct route w e took the other route only to be confronted by the foxton flight of locks...she'd turned two pages at once and  we only had 2 days to get back.... but we made it...

It's magic! Something about barges/ narrowboats that just chill you right out . There was a brilliant community project in Glasgow that operated a barge for community groups on the forth and clyde canal - the youth project I worked at used to book a couple of weeks every summer and take groups of teenagers away for a week at a time, and it was great. All these "difficult, disruptive" kids were total pussycats the whole time they were there .

Highlights were shooting star spotting just outside Bishopbriggs  and haunting the posh  restaurant barge at Kirkie ( they got a hold of the facepaints and zombied up and squished up at the windows as we passed the posh boat )

Sounds like great fun....

I just know that what the week has thrown at me...that the instant I step foot on the boat...Whoooosh! it all disappears!

We also pass this place.....

Love narrowboats, had many a good school trip up and down the Grand Union.

I always wanted to have our family holiday on a narrowboat, but it is so expensive. It was always cheaper to hire a Spanish villa, with flight, pool and car, than to hire a narrowboat in this country. And there was never that uncertainty about the weather either.

I hear you Rexi.....they charge ÂĢ800 per week for the hire boats from the marina we use!
