My favourite film is 'The Dresser'. It is a film set in the war years but it is about the theatre and how this group of actors travelled around the country putting on Shakespearean plays. It stars Albert Finney and Tom Courteney. The acting is absolutely brilliant, and the actors were both put up for Oscars in that year (1986 I think), but in different categories. It was a farce that neither got an Oscar as their performances were both top class. If you want a laugh, plus brilliant performances (Albert Finney OTT and with stage fright, and Tom Courtney as his gay Dresser) that is the film I would recommend.

Stand by Me (get tissues ready)
Memento (get a pen and paper ready)
Identity / Grosse Point Blank (Cusack fix)
Life (v funny and I don't normally like Eddie Murphy)
The Machinist / American Psycho (Bale fix)
Clockwork Orange (watch out for the Russell Brand lines)
Amadeus (You can even go do the cleaning and enjoy this one)
...one already mentioned Rear Window (IMO Hitchcock's greatest)
And Then There Were None (1945 version)
and, of course, 'Harvey'. Smiler
