My dad was coming up for the weekend from Bristol so he could see me before the baby is born. He can't come now because my spare room is an attic conversion and we're having the roof done. The roofers cut a four foot square hole in the roof on Wednesday to put a new Velux window in but because it's been raining ever since I now just have a massive hole with a bit of tarpaulin to cover it. So my dad can't come. I'm a bit gutted now.

I'd be more worried about the massive hole in your roof and the rain
Could he stay in a travel lodge, or on the sofa, i know thats not ideal but its such a shame when you have looked forward to it
Awwww QOTHT
Cant he get a room in a bnb or hotel near by?

Awww Queenie . There is some good hotels in Bristol he could try to book a room there they're quite cheap.
I don't think he can really afford to stay in a B&B at the moment and we can't really afford to pay for him either, it's quite expensive here becuase it's a tourist location. Hopefully he'll be able to make it next month. Bliddy roofers though, I don't understand why they cut the roof when they knew what the forecast would be. It's chucking it down here and freezing too. We're stuck with this now for at least another three days.

Not much point in that Darlo, he already lives in Bristol, I live in Holmfirth. Thanks though, you've just cheered me up.
Get an airbed for about ÂĢ10 and put him up on the living room floor. Not ideal, but at least you'd see your Dad

It's not just him coming up, he's bringing my step-monster with him. Plus he's in his 60's, weighs about 17 stone and is recovering from prostate cancer and having physio for his shoulder. An air bed or sofa just wouldn't be a good idea. Normally we'd give our bed up but with me being 6 months pregnant it's hard for me to get comfy even in bed let alone anywhere else.

Just what I was thinking - and when he's gone home at least you'll always have a spare bed!!

Ah Queenie I'm raging for you but as you have pointed out there is no way a blow up bed would suffice. Sorry I can't offer you an other alternatives other than I am genuinely sorry for you.

Blimey, that's the first time I've ever seen the words Holmfirth & excited in the same sentence.

I might be mistaking it with our trip to Harry Ramsden's afterwards.
The cafe was a bit, well, underwhelming.

Was it the one in Guiseley? Last time we went Arthur Scargill was eating his battered pollock and chips.

West Yorkshire, on the edge of the Pennines between Manchester & Leeds. It's where they film Last of the Summer Wine, but don't hold that against me.

YES!
It was very exciting because I'm Lancastrian and I felt like I was being very brave.

You're a Lancastrian?! That was indeed very brave. My mum's a Lancastrian, I don't tell anyone about it up here though.
