Gypsie..I know you have bunnies.I have two totally house rabbits...Rio bun is an old guy..he has problems now, however he has been a great rabbit."Cleo"  the diva ,his "wife" is half his age...she has up  till now been the most vet attended fur ball...Cost wise she has take my  bank balance for at least ÂĢ300. pounds..#

Seriously to folk that think rabbits will make good pets  etc with Easter Time coming up etc. Please think on.They are fragile animals health wise actually, they cost vet wise etc.Give your child etc a furry toy instead...please..

No,he's eating veg.Brocolli, dandelion leaves ,carrots etc. However he won't touch the usual bunny mix.He is over 7 years old a grandad rabbit really. He had  a full dental procedure a month ago, they stated his teeth were not in the best shape, even after the treatment(Bunnies teeth grow  continiously, his front teeth were fine, the big old grinding back  molars were not so good. The vet at the PDSA which I'm attending stated he'll X-ray him a week on Friday, however that won't show up any soft tissue problems(cancer)Meanwhile his "wifey" bun little gurl Cleo is an absolute Tub,as she's hoovering up all the leftovers.

Some hopeful news Rio  has started eating his bunny food  the last few days and chomping down on his veg! He's actually been jumping up on the sofa beside me and "mugging" me for food.He goes to the vet on Thursday, hopefully he might have put some  weight on,though it's early days yet.Fingers crossed, the anti-biotics seemed to have helped him.

Sproot you can wait with some animals, cats dogs ,even smaller furries. However rabbits are a more delicate creature. If they don't eat for 24 hours  their guts can go into shutdown mode it's called stasis. It can be fatal if not treated. They are not a pet I'd recommend for young kids etc.

Alas on the "One show" last night they highlighted that they are still the most dumped pet. They said for kids get them a hamster or gerbil, stay clear of rabbits.,

Ah sproot,I always preach about buns, sorry. I see fluffy baby buns in pet shops etc and rabbit re-homing centres are  overflowing with unwanted rabbits that have grown into large, demanding, kicking, sometimes aggressive adult buns.

They get bought, housed in an unsuitable tiny hutch etc.The kids get fed up with it,no one wants to clean out the hutch care for the "stroppy" rabbit...sigh.

Aww Deman, that little grey is still pootling along, bless.Well, had Rio back at the vet this afternoon,he's put on 100 grams (significant  for a rabbit the vet saidi),some more anti-biotics for him.The vet stil  hasn't got a firm diagnosis for him.Possibly a dental abcess, maybe a stomach /gut problem. However he's still eating well so fingers crossed his troubles are over...sigh!
