You've done well Katty....seven is a good age
It's horrible losing a pet, but he's obviously had a great life.....He might surprise you yet.

i had two guinea pigs that lived eight years with lots of health scares.

aw Katty..   he's still going though..    I can imagine how you feel though..

I dread losing my dog..   dread it!    its (hopefully) a long way off as he is only 6, but time seems to go so quickly.

I've had a shitty week in terms of animals..    I discovered a cat that had been hit by a car on my drive on Monday morning (well, the postman discovered it)..  poor thing was in a right state, we knocked on a few doors to see if we could find who's it was..   in the end I rang my vet, the postman got hold of a cat box & I took it to the vets.     She (the cat) was chipped so they were able to contact the owner...   coincidentally it was the vets the cat was registered with..     they told me they had managed to get hold of the owner, so I left.

half an hour after I got in, my next door but one neighbour was at my door..  in tears.    She thanked me for taking her cat down there..    by the time she got there the cat was in a coma and died in her arms a few mins later.

I did know this cat (not who owned her though)...   she had been coming in the garden to goad my dog for the last few months..

Its stupid..  but I ain't half shed some tears this week over that cat, and her owner (I saw her unpacking her shopping from the car later on that day... crying her eyes out)

Then on Tuesday, there were two rabbits in the middle of one of the back roads when I was taking the boy to school.,   I had to actually get out of the car to shoo them out of the way..  as I got closer I saw the poor things had myxomatosis.   I really really hate that fecking disease.     Had I had the guts (& known sooner what was wrong with them)..  I should have run them over & put them out of their misery..    but I know I wouldn't be able to do it.

Like I said..   its been a bad week animal wise.

tis crap..   in fact every day this week has been crap, except for Wednesday, for which I am grateful!   Daughter had her uni interview at Imperial on Wednesday and that went really well.

Gotta learn to be grateful for the good stuff, & not let the bad stuff drag me down!  *repeats mantra in head*

Injured animals though - kinda my hercules heel!

And..   you did quote Stoory!

so I will let you off!

Aww, chin up katty!
Our five year old Guinea Pig has had kidney problems and the vet thought she was on her way out.

She had two weeks of antibiotics, lost loads of weight and I had lots of "We'd better be prepared for the worst" chats with my daughter, but she is off the meds and eating like a champion, now.

Fingers crossed she'll last a good while yet.

I bliddy hate the funerals, as my daughter does a rather good impression of those professional mourners from Greece. It all gets very traumatic.

My sister and I had Guinea Pigs, when we were kids, which lasted nine years.

Ochh Katty .. he's a tough boy though eh? Was a wee while ago now you were concerned and took him to the PDSA, and he's still going strong - maybe stressed from the visit and a bit wobbly cause of that , Keep tabs on him, hope he's stronger soon.  They're a mixed blessing, animals, eh? Brilliant to be around, but if things get shaky they're a helluva worry . Starting to look for another wee rescue cat, debated it cause there's no substitute for my ole girl we just lost, but I'm figuring now that there's loads out there needing homes, and we have the space and time, so ..
Anyways! Mon the Rio! x

I've just remember a funny story, hoping to give you a bit of a laugh if nothing else.
I used to put books all around the balcony floor when I let her out so she wouldn't fall off. It always went ok until one day I went to fetch her in and couldn't find her. My heart nearly stopped. I checked every nook and cra nny, went downstairs into the garden, fearing the worst. Couldn't find her anywhere. This went on for 2 days and I was distraught. I took my 20th search of the balcony and suddenly saw the lid of my mother's jam making lid moving around. Yep, there she was, trapped under the lid, saved by the whole for the thermometer. She made such a fuss when I released her, even my mother, a diehard farmer's daughter, cried.

Well a month on and Rio still isn't eating well.Obviously I've been getting enough veg for him to munch, thank gawd for the fresh dandelion season.I think folk round about are peering at me from behind their nets as I rumage at verges and  underneath unkempt garden  hedges for clusters of dandelion leaves. He has an appointment on Friday at the vets,he's really skin and bone under his lovely tri- colour fur..  I've warned my niece,he was her pet originally,he's now 7..elderly but  bunnies can live to 10.
