Good luck in all that you do Demantoid, but be careful with your financial 'cushion.' (if you're getting a good one...)  It's surprising how quickly it goes...My neighbour's husband left work 5 months ago, and got ÂĢ23,000 redundancy, and he is stil not working as he has not even bothered looking for a job. And believe it or not; there is only a THIRD of the money left now...

He bought a van with a view to becoming a gardener...  He is officially starting his 'business' next week, (he is going to put flyers through letterboxes!) even though he finished work in April!  (What kind of divvy starts a gardening company in the autumn FFS?)  There is ÂĢ8,000 of this money left, after they bought the van, and spent ÂĢ4,000 on new furniture and clothes and new laptops for each of their 3 kids, and had THREE holiday overseas...and paid off two credit card bills...  AND bought a new car which they frankly did not need...  He got no benefit of course, because of the redundancy..  It's two-thirds gone now, and as I said, he doesnt even have a job, and no work whatsover lined up for his gardening business.  And I know two other people with a similar tale which I won't bore you with, but suffice to say: they had between ÂĢ15,000 and ÂĢ30,000 payout and most of it went VERY quickly!

Deman! So glad you're getting away from that shit pit. All the repurcussions of the press and journo scandals would have meant it would have been 20 times worse in a few months...goodbye Trinity...hello Tenko.

Don't know how much you know about the benefit side of things, but you are able to sign on straight away and get your council tax and housing paid (if you rent), even if you've got a 4-5k package. (Don't know what the limit is). You may have to deal with those Jobseekers Allowance people, but if you turn up once, explain that not only can you read and write, but you are fully coherent and actually have a CV (and have compiled it all by yourself) there won't be anything on their system to suit you anyway. Just tell them you are actively trying to find your own work, have contacts in the industry and they should leave you alone (hopefully).

Hope it won't be too long before something else comes up. x

LAST DAY TODAY!

Thanks so much, everybody, for all your wise words and support!

I'm entitled to claim JSA (starting the process by signing on online tomorrow) and I'm also doing a thing we have in Wales called ReAct. It's run by Careers Wales and entitles anyone who has been made redundant to ÂĢ1,500 worth of training. Planning to update my office skills and also do a web design course.

Apart from that, a bloody good rest, plus a huge house and garden clearout and tidy-up..

But not tonight. Tonight I'm going out with a gang of my fellow redundo mates to get totally, utterly leathered
