When my son was due to be a witness he was told that in a large percentage of cases the accused wait and see if all the witnesses turn up. If they do, and it is inevitable that they will be found guilty, they change their plea at the last minute in the hope of a lighter sentence, and the witnesses are not then needed.

Aww she was ever so nice. Tried to calm me down. She spoke to the police station and he is okay and will be in court tomorrow morning. She told me I shouldn't worry about it too much

What a heap of crap for you and the bubs never mind the old man. The Criminal (in)justice system really needs a kick in the whatsits.
You know damn well that if hubby does testify that the police will be missing if this nutter does give you grief afterwards. Hubby should ask the court to withold his address on the basis of safety etc
