Only the Turkey & Rice dry food she normally has. It stinks, she keeps coming to sit next to me and it's like being followed around by Billingsgate market.
I'm wondering whether her anal glans need cleaning out. I can't do it, the smell's already making me gag.

Are you sure it's the dog?

Try her on some wet food like Butchers Superior with gravy or something.
Most dry food has veg extracts and are rank, do you normally feed her this.
Also try a bowl of milk
Maybe she's trying to give birth....out of her bum.....I just realised how stupid that sounds, I'm sorry, I'm so ashamed
Have you considered that her anal glands might be blocked, and a visit to the vet to get them drained might be in order. My girl dog used to suffer regularly with this until we changed her on to a holistic food.
Ta for sharing

They're all on premium Wainwright's food which does have meat extracts rather than the Pedigree/Bakers type dry stuff which is mainly veg. They all get a couple of spoonfuls of meat in gravy with their dinner too.
Doesn't milk give most dogs diarrohea? I thought they were generally lactose intolerant and you shouldn't really let them have it unless it's goats milk?

Would you like me to drain your anal glands for you Cinds?

That's what I think it is. I think she'll have to go to the vets. I don't fancy sticking my fingers up her bum to clean it out. I've never had any problems with any of the boys before. I wonder if girls are more prone to it.

Never had a problem with our boy either, so I think it might be that girls are more susceptible.
I wish I hadn't read this thread

Both my boy Jack Russells were prone to it. Lovely sight, little dog pulling himself along by "walking" his front feet only and dragging his bum across the carpet
We sent them to the vet for the old rubber glove treatment. And the looks of outrage ("I have been VIOLATED") on their faces afterwards was hilarious.

my dog's breath smells like a blocked drain
i think the answer is to keep stick insects instead.

Or hamsters. They (and their breath) smell of biscuits.
It's easy to do.Just pull her tail over her back and with a rubber glove on your right hand place your thumb and middle finger in twenty to four position, you will feel the glands if they are full and squeeze.Have plenty of tissue or cotton wool to collect the drainage.

Oh good grief
However if blood comes out then she has an infection and you will need to take her to vets for some antibiotics.

Oh god I know that look so well, I always hold her chin against my chest, and her little eyes just look at me like 'MAM why are they doing this to me'.
Bojangles, I think I'll just carry on paying the vet the ÂĢ12 thanks. I know you can do it yourself, but I'd be terrified in case I did something wrong and damaged her. Me poor little Gloria

I promise not to do the twenty to four finger positions

I tried that. I've still got a scar on my thumb from where Hamsterdam mistook me for a sunflower seed
is it her farting queen, because it could be blocked anal glands, my doggy suffered that once and it smelt like rotting fish.
must be the anal glands i reckon. tends to have that smell lol
i had to clean a dog's anal glands once for my dog grooming module at college not my favourite moment lol. a groomer may be cheaper than a vet though...esp if you usually use a groomer as it could be included in a price or give you it as a 'freebie'

hey darth!
my dog used to fart... give me a dirty look and leave the room
I just can't bring myself to stick my finger up her bum. She's got those big eyes that look at you like she's about to be violated if you give her a cuddle when she's not expecting it, never mind if I come at her with my hand in a rubber glove ready to go up her jacksy. I think I'll get hubby to take her to the vet.
Good Lord , my eyes!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather give birth to triplets standing on my head than stick my hand up a dogs bum and squeeze

The vet shouldn't charge much to flush them out for her, mine charges ÂĢ12, and that's normally if we have made an appointment especially for it, other wise they do it on request if you are there for something else. But smelling fishy is usually a sign they need draining.
