is this to do with her glands?
i got told by the vet last week that my puppy had an itchy bum cos her anal glands were blocked - she told me i could clear them myself by sticking my fingers up her bum at 10 and 2 and giving a squeeze
she was quite distressed when the vet did it so i dont wanna try

Barney . Yes it is her anal glands that are blocked again, poor little love. She doesn't seem to suffer much with itching, she just really stinks of rotting fish. Neither me or the OH can bring ourselves to clean her up so we just get the vet to do it for us. It costs us ÂĢ15 
but I'd rather pay that than stick my fingers up her bum myself. She was quite calm when it was done last time, it must have been awful to see your pup in distress.

oooh.. I am sitting here thanking any god who will listen that my dog doesn't have this problem.
Messy backside.. yes. Do I have to carry him straight up to the bathroom at least once a week... armed with latex gloves & scissors.. yes.
Does the nasty reek of his bum mean I should be squeezing the rankest vilest smelling substance know to man out of glands around his bumhole... no!

the only tiniest downside is that he doesn't do the scooting across the carpet thing... my old dog used to do that and it made me really laugh... though I was a kid, and so probably not that bothered by the whys behind the scooting!
