My diet went totally tits up this week so best of luck to you Renton...

I do however thing 600 calories a day for a man is very wrong!

I lost 3 stone on the Rosemary Conley diet some years ago when you didn't eat anything over 4 grams of fat per 100 grams... (apart from tuna in brine) It worked so well and with light exercise it was a steady weight loss and I was on 1200 calories a day.

I'm gonna give it another go...

Anyway best of luck and let us know how it goes

Thank you for your words of advice and support keep 'em coming!!!
Well i'm under the guidance of a nurse and will defo take care of myself - rest assured.
Last night i was on nightshift and felt physically sick - but not shakey or lightheaded, so i had my next 'meal-in-a-sachet' earlier than planeed and felt fine after one mouthful then polished off the rest.
Right now i'm eating my ONE proper meal of the day (i just woke up) and i have to say i feel fine and not even hungry . . . very odd!!
I have ZERO cravings and for some strange reason i have no interest in food.
This is EXACTLY wot i wanted .... a new attitude and the hope i will never go back to my old eating habits
Wish me luck

But that really isn't 'normal' or a way to live the rest of your life is it? I think you need educating into how to make 'good choices' ..........................not to lose interest in food - we all need to eat. We need to learn portion control and to appreciate food that is less fattening ............to deny food altogether is really no way to live. It's a short term solution to weight loss ..........sorry if it sounds like preaching.

that is how it works sooz, it is short term...it's meant to help with food ADDICTION...think of it as a reset button, the diet will (well should) delete renton's negative attitude towards food (which caused the weight gain) then install some sensible eating regimes after a short amount of time on the diet. the counselling given should teach renton how to eat sensibly whilst he is gradually eating more calories again after the diet has finished.

it's like food rehab...and you HAVE to have a doctor ok this diet for you to go on it (apparently). i'm thinking of going on the diet myself (and have thought about it for a year now..time to do it probably lol) as i've tried other diets and stuff, and changing your whole lifestyle is not easy to do on your own...and i am morbidly obese and NEED to lose it

DAY 4
9am Woke quite hungry - really wanted a big brekkie but knew i couldn't  - had a chocolate milkshake meal replacement .... and felt fine!!

Been out and missed my proper meal at 2pm so had it at 4pm ... gosh i have never chewed, chewed, chewed soooo much, i know how a cow feels - all that salad (which i know i shouldn't have so much of - never thought i'd feel guilty having salad - lol)
Feel ok after that proper meal.
Must admit i'm AM missing my food but not craving it and defo no where near needing to cheat  so can't complain!

My main concern is ... this is only DAY FOUR ... how-the-pookie will i feel after four WEEKS ... or three MONTHS

Watch this space . . . .

DARTHOOB - you have hit the nail on the head!!
It IS about food re-hab and having a 'rest' from the bad habits that brought me to this point.
Its making me 'stop' then slowly reintroduce foods sensibly with exercise.
Leaving it to my own devices ... well i wud fail.
I'm weighed every week - counselled - and able to readjust if i'm really struggling.

Already i know the ONE MEAL A DAY of proper food is a lifesaver - so my re-education has begun right now !!

fact is renton......you can't add anything to it......not even the stir fry veg......that will add calories and therefore your 'plan' will fall down.....cos believe me...it won't be long before adding things becomes a regular occurence.

i really would consider following a more sensible plan........a grown man surviving on 554 calories a day is just asking for trouble....especially when you're working nightshifts, looking after your mum etc etc..........

DAY 7
Well its been a week and already i've learned to adapt this diet rather than fail.
I see adapting as 'sensible' and listening to my body rather than cheat a spoil it all.
By adapting i mean eating a little bit more - otherwise i feel sick, bored, and uninterested and certainly my motivation wud have waned already.
So i am doing well - feel great AND ...

I GET WEIGHED TONIGHT !!!

HERE GOES . . . I HAVE LOST . . . . . 1STONE 3LBS IN ONE WEEK !!!!
What did you do, have a high colonic irrigation and an arm amputated? That is WAY too much for one week.

It'll be harder to keep it off, because you will have slowed your metabolism by doing it so drastically, and the body will rush to turn any calories it receives into fat reserves, because crash diets make it go into starvation-survival mode. No-one should ever aim to lose more than 3-4lb a week.
Demantoid
Demantoid makes a good point 2-3lbs weekly is an excellent steady weight loss.  The first week of any diet is when you will get the most dramatic loss, thereafter it's a steady slog.  But that initial loss can be very motivating to help you feel that you are in control and really can make a difference ....once again well done Renton!

Awww thank you HOOCHIE and YOGI - i really am smiling

its all planned out for me to re-introduce food and exercise - please read up above.

I feel great - no craving - totally ZERO desire to cheat - i have NO interest in food .... and for me that is close to a miracle!!! I needed an attitude changE and its happening.
I am being monitored by a nurse and she sed that this amount of weight loss is not unheard of.

ROLL ON NEXT WEEK - WISH ME WELL

She can't be a very good nurse, if she thinks living on fad diets of less than 600 cals a day is OK. That's not even enough to run your normal bodily functions properly. No wonder you had spells of feeling sick and light-headed - it's your body telling you it NEEDS MORE FOOD.

Ok i don't mind saying at all PGTIPS
For a woman it is recomended you have 3 meal replacements at a cost of ÂĢ38p/week

For men it is recommended you have 4 meal replacements a day costing ÂĢ48p/week
I chose 3 meal replacements plus a 200calorie meal per day = ÂĢ38p/week

BUT - YOU CAN CHOOSE from 7 stages of diet from full on 544cal 12 week max diet to 2000 calorie maintenance - all costing different amounts.
Its up to you to decide wot is suitable for you and your needs and your purse!!

Too late i've paid up and chosen the maintenance 554cal diet
Starvation won't help. It will actually cause you to get fat as your body looses mscle and replaces it with extra fat cells. The food that you DO eat will only partly be used to fuel your body. A portion of everything you eat will be converted into fat and deposited in these EXTRA fat cells. And so in the end you will have more fat cells than when you started and for a while after you 'come off' the diet your body will continue to store some of your food as fat and it will take an even greater effort to rebuild the lost muscle. meanwhile you will still be laying down extra fat deposits. so to get the added energy to rebuild yourself you will need to eat even more  because some of what you do eat is being converted into fat reserves. So if you ate 100 calories of food your body would not get 100 calories of energy.
