No matter how realistic they try to make it, a modern-day crew will still be aware that they've got a support boat behind them packed with antibiotics and other wonders of modern science. It can therefore be difficult for them to fully appreciate just how dangerous what they're doing actually is, and that puts them at risk of taking unsafe risks.

That's why I'm so impressed by this series. They have - within health and safety limits - tried to reproduce what the real sailors actually went through, and they didn't have any backup: it was literally life or death.

Sometimes word like "astonishing" seem inadequate.

That's why I'm so impressed by this series. They have - within health and safety limits - tried to reproduce what the real sailors actually went through, and they didn't have any backup - it was literally life or death.
