Suddenly today, my mouse icon froze in the middle of the screen. I have tried everything to sort it out - rebooting and all sorts of checks. It is an inbuilt mouse pad on a laptop - can anybody help?

That happened to me recently on my laptop Scatts. Tried everything like you but nothing worked. Turned out I'd accidentally locked the touchpad. To unlock it, it wasn't in the control panel - but in a separate bit called Packard Bell Device Fast Lane. It was reached through the icon on the taskbar. Is there anything there on your taskbar?
Or try pressing F6 or Fn+F6 to unlock the touchpad?
Scatterby, if your mouse pad is still not working and you've tried the above can you say what make and model of laptop you have.
Thanks both - I'll try that Rosie!
It's a Toshiba Satellite Loro.
I'll be back'...I hope!
May be worth looking at some of the ideas on this link:

The most likely one is to press Fn+F9.
Hope that works.

At the time I posted that, I was doing a 'restore factory settings' thingy. Mouse still wouldn't work and I did that Fn and F6 and it worked - yayyyyyy Thank you again

Glad it's sorted though according to my Google searches for Toshiba laptops, F6 controls the brightness of the screen and F9 the touchpad.
