You need to damp dust Rawky - this way you remove it instead of just sweeping it into the atmosphere.

The cloth should be wet and then wrung out well. Then just wipe all over the surfaces.
Keep your electrical equipment dust free by using a tumble dryer sheet . This removes the static.
The more electrical stuff you have in a room, the dustier it will be.

     Use a wash leather on wooden furniture and like Issy says wring it out as tight as you can

Mind you, my hoover had been broken recently so I haven't hoovered for ages
