Why's that?

He technically can, one of my year 13s this year was doing a re-sit year and so was a year older than all the others. He got better grades and is off to Uni in September. If he doesn't feel like he can face it tho maybe give him time to adjust and then contact the school for advice.

Fracas and rosgirl are right tho, those are good grades and so don't give up hope yet!

Guess there's no chance of you squeezing him/her out in the next 3 and a half hours?

I wish. Wink Disappointed

Oh come on now Queenie... not even to cheer up Moomin....

Moomin..I'd agree with croc..pester the unis tomorrow.Your son will have been one of many many disappointed kids jamming the phone lines today.....and they're not bad grades at all Smiler

Failing that I cant see why he cant go into the sixth form.I know other kids who've taken a gap between AS and A2 and gone in a year late..and thats to a school sixth form...colleges are probably even more flexible.

Dont give up.Hes worked too hard for that.Even if he has to re-take the year(and thats a worst case scenario),he may find he develops new interests, makes new friends he'd not have considered and gone in a new direction that ultimately suits him better. How many of us really knew what we wanted at 18 Hug

Thankyou Smiler

I resat upper sixth. Had a right laugh Big Grin

Same here, tho I went to the local college to do it.
There were lots of others who were retaking in my year...and I made some brilliant friends. In fact I've kept them longer than my school mates.
And while I was there I was offered a job in a laboratory. When I got my A levels they offered to pay for me to work my way up and eventually get an M.Sc.I was lucky enough to be paid to continue my education.I met my hubby doing my H.N.C and we were able to buy a flat as 'students' thanks to the (admittedly crap) wages.
Result...I qualified without debt and a roof over my head...and I'd not change that part of my life for the world.

He got BCC - one of his Cs was 10 marks off a B and the other was 15 marks off, I think.

The uni he wanted to go to gave him a conditional offer of BBB.
Unfortunately all 5 of his offers were BBB, so his 2nd choice uni immediately rejected him.

The thing is, his UCAS page does not say yes, but neither does it say no.
He has twice phoned up the uni help line (once this morning when he was 98 in the queue!!) to be told that they are still deciding whether to offer him a place or not. There are apparently a lot of people in the same predicament.
He SHOULD find out YAY or NAY by the WEEKEND!! Eeker What bothers me is that meanwhile all the other places in clearing are going to be taken up by people with worse grades than him who got a flat NO answer, so if he doesn't get in after all this (which I am not hopeful of), there wiil be nothing for him.
Having said that, he will probably take a year out and do some sort of work/voluntary work in his chosen field, resit his papers and reapply next year.

So we STILL don't know - all in all a shitty day.

Thanks you lot - it really does mean a lot to able to talk to you so I can have a weep here and be strong for him.

Awwwww Moomin and Master Moomin... Hug Hug Keeping my fingers crossed ... The waiting must be awful.

I left a message somewhere or other for you (forget which fred Red Face)
Were you waiting on results today hun? If so how did you go?

Well I had to re-do Year 12 because I had to stop midway the year last time, and got BBBE, the E was down to an awful teacher and my own laid back attitude but I'm pleased with the results any old way Laugh

you as well barlo i couldnt remember who was the other teacher Big Grin

oh you forget teachers in results when your sitting worrying for your kids and yourself all day.

You and Barolo remind me of a lovely geography teacher I had. When we got our results back, he was as excited as we were Big Grin. He was so proud that I got a higher grade than I was predicted, I heard him make a comment to my most hated teacher about how I reacted well to good teaching Ninja

Good for you hun Hug
I took A levels as a (very) mature student 11 years ago so I know how difficult and stressful it is.
Taking them at the same time as my kids certainly gave me an insight into what they were going through Nod

Thanks Veg, and well done yourself, I know for a fact I would not be motivated to take A Levels at the same time as my kids, shows a lot about you Wink SmilerHug

Its such a day of mixed emotions. I went with my niece to get her results. She sat her A levels a year early *beams with pride* Big Grin

I watched some of the kids elated and some devastated. I was in a bloody turmoil when I came from the school.

Moomin, you sound like a fab Mum. Im sure you're son is disappointed but as others have said they are certainly not bad results.

Maybe he will feel differently in the morning after the emotions of the day have subsided a little Hug

I've dipped in and out of this thread since this afternoon. I've wanted to post something, in fact I've struggled to find the right words without sounding in any way insincere or out of turn.

I am both delighted for those who have had wonderful success and so genuinely sorry for those who've had set backs.

My kids are long since out of education but I can still taste that rising nausea of anguish and nerves.

All of you in this thread deserve applause for your support and enthusiasm to the kids. They're all winners - and WILL be winners because they have YOU to guide them. Hug
