I think it's the only fair way Olly

I just keep thinking back to CBB and thinking 'so if I disagree with the mod's choice of HM...... can I tell them - or will I go in the book....'

No, it's not just you.  Since Ted first posted the sticky thread I've felt that, with people suggesting their forum friends as mods, there has been an undercurrent.  As you say, I think it's inevitable that it will end in tears.

I love this forum and would hate to see it close, so if i can do anything to help it  stay the place it is i am willing to

Hi Jen  We dont know if Lori was paid not that that matters ..I was not having a dig at anyone I was just concerned at how many mods we could end up with, which I dont think would be a good idea if we have to many in my honest opinion,I am with the majority I dont like the idea of any of us here being a moderator it would be very hard to be impartial during heated arguements if one of them was a friend, but accept if it means saving the forum we have to give the chosen mods a chance,I have never had a warning or been banned from here or ch4 forum nor have I ever reported anyone on Ch4 or here it wont change that much for myself ..I hope I do applaud those who have volunteered I would not be able to do it even if I wanted to ..which I dont,we will just have to see how it pans out as long as whoever takes the job is fair and impartial we cant ask for anything more ..good luck

I think that's part of the problem.  If Seattle had looked at everyone's history since we've all been here, and approached individuals who they thought would make good mods, I would have been far more likely to have given the new regime a chance.  It's the fact that people have put themselves forward that really bothers me.

thats why i said maybe it would be better if the mod from here had to refer any bannings etc to higher up the chain and that they were only allowed to remove offensive posts etc

I do applaud anyone for volunteering but do agree with what you have said ^^^ would have been much better and fairer way to do it.. I dont know why they never went down that route in the first place to be honest ..

Well said Jen, just how I saw it too.  I can't see the forum changing one little bit and I think we owe a big debt of gratitude to those who have volunteered to help out.  It's certainly a community worth supporting whether we have loads of FM's or just a few.  We survived being thrown overboard by C4 and the good ship GaGa steamed to our aid, we can do this too

Aww Marg, hope you start to feel better soon xxx.....Lord knows the outcome of the mod situation but imo it has the potential to go badly badly wrong in many ways.

I agree with that Growly.  A much better way of handling what, to us, is a huge change.  And I don't intend any disrespect to those who've volunteered.  It came down to that or saying goodbye to our community which we've sustained for ten plus years.

Because as I understand it, the present moderators wish to take a back seat entirely other than technical and maintenance issues.

Hi Marg

It. not known yet how many mods are to be appointed, so it's not definite that everyone who applies/volounteers will actually BE a mod.

I think most of the tensions at the moment are of a nervous nature, because we don't know exactly what ALL the boundaries will be.

I think also because of past experience...but lets not forget...ch4 allowed under 18's so they had a strict guideline.

Whole new ballpark here!

Kaffy, the mods will have to abide by the rules just as much as everyone else. If they start applying 'discipline' on the basis of their own personal preferences, Seattle will take away their mod status, because that would break one of the requirements for modship.

So go ahead and say that you can't stand a mod's favourite -= that's what the forum is all about....the users exchanging thoughts and opinions about things as well as just having general chats.

It could well be that the 'powers' granted to the new FM mods will be little more than mediation and greater power might only come later once an initial 'probationary period' has been analyzed....from BOTH sides.

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

I'm sure any mod worth their salt will go out of their way to be impartial....I know if it was me doing the job and there was an issue involving one of my friends, I would be extra careful to be impartial, not less so. And any mod not demonstrating impartiality wouldn't keep their job for long (as mentioned by Ted in sticky).

I personally feel that all three of those who we know to have volunteered so far will do a good job given the right support (from us), and I would also like to believe that we're all sensible enough to handle the change.

Whether this works or not is going to boil down to two things..... the maturity of those who have volunteered.....and the maturity of the rest of us in supporting them in their new roles. And we're all adults, so what can go wrong?  If it doesn't work we will only have ourselves to blame!

Good luck to those who are going to take it on. I think you're all insanely brave,  but I'm sure you're going to be great.
