Ted said he would get back to me and anyone else who had volunteered on Monday with more details as to what was involved. I don't know at this stage if the new mods will actually start from Monday or until later. I don't know how many of us have volunteered at this point in time - we may find out how many on Monday. It's somewhere between 2 and 1,578

Surely there must be an all expenses paid trip to Seattle for a weeks training course?

I had my reservations, at first, but we'll see how it goes. I'm certainly happy with the twosual suspects.

I wasn't too keen on the idea either... but not to the point of mutiny.

It costs absolutely NOTHING to post on this forum or to be a member, so unless the Mods turn into bossy dictators, I won't be departing in a hurry.

I agree

So - is there really an issue?

As a naturally cautious person my gut feeling is to "wait and see", but on reflection I have to agree with Renton on this. There really shouldn't be any need to panic here.

As I would never consider applying to be a Mod for a number of reasons, I largely ignored the sticky thread - big mistake, as I'm now desperately playing catch-up on this.

Whenever this sort of situation arises, there's always the "who watches the watchmen" question, but as Renton says, that's what the forum rules are for.

As for the "getting paranoid about using the 'report' button" issue: I've posted a few times in the past about the "report" button on other forums, such as IMDb. On there, it used to be the case that if someone was considered to be reporting FMs irresponsibly, they could get banned (not sure if that's still the case - current attitude on IMDb towards trolling, etc, seems to be to encourage the use of the "ignore" option). The point is that you should only be reporting a post in the first place if it's a clear breach of forum rules.

For the record, I've only ever reported one post on here. I won't go into details as it's all done and dusted now, but essentially someone posted a picture which they presumably meant as a joke but was - IMO - in bad taste and offensive. The Mods clearly agreed as the picture was removed, but the FM continued posting and as far as I could tell that was the end of it. For the vast majority of cases, I would expect just that sort of light touch. On the few occasions that a thread has got heated, the response of the Mods (as far as I can tell) has generally been to try and let us sort it out ourselves, and if that fails just lock the thread, The new Terms and Conditions not withstanding, I don't expect that to change too much.

I suppose it's unfortunate that this has come about just as we're getting ready for a new series of BB, but as I said earlier; I don't think we should be panicking - well, not just yet, anyway...

No. Actually, I think I missed that one...

I'd rather not say any more regarding the post's contents, so please  - no more "was it me?" replies. It was a while ago and I genuinely can't remember who posted it. I only mentioned it in the first place to make a point: I regard one unintentionally offensive post in all the time I've been on this forum as extremely good going (even allowing for the lower usage), compared with the number of offensive trolls I used to see on the C4 board, and the number I still see on IMDb...

As Soozy says - it's wait and see.   if it works - and the mods don't get p'd off with it - great.  If it doesn't, i guess people will vote with their feet.

Yes Kaffy, I am happy with the two we know of so far.....I'm just wondering if there are a few surprises for us on Monday with regards to others.

Well...... I pm'd Ted and offered to help out if needed, as i thought it a big job for just one or two people.

Wait and see is my instinct.  I left a forum recently because the mod was s**te and had her own agendas and sensitivities.  She was the type who'd get all vitriolic and jump into "Won't someone think of the children?" mode, if you made an off the cuff remark about someone being fat but was totally relaxed about comments like "Trackies, voddy and 40" TVs and yet we let chavs carry on  breeding".

Damn right...   I'd hope there would recourse to Seattle in that event.

don't worry - I haven't applied.

See kaffy, I think you would be alright!! you seem pretty level headed and fair, it is just you can tell by the way some people post that they are incappable of seeing there are two sides to every story, and you can't have people like that moderating...That's not meant as a dig at anyone, as we are all guilty of only seeing our own points of veiw at times, especially if it is over something you feel strongly about, but, well, some people handle it better than others!

Doesn't bear thinking about imo,TBH it could be very problematic during BB,what if  something is posted about a HM which doesn't go down favourably with whoever is modding at the time, will the post and poster be treated with impartiality if it is a negative post about their HM of choice.

Why do we need three or more moderators when Lori did it all by herself surely two would be enough we could end up with too may chiefs and not enough indians..so to speak.. good luck to the whoever gets chosen.. I just hope they will be impartial when having to sort out any heated arguements especially during BB ..Lee's post above^^^ made a very good point.

If it's not breaking the forums rules i don't think anything would be done.

Marg, the way i saw it was Lori is paid, it's part of her 'job' to be around a lot during her working hours..... When it's us volunteering it's more of a part time thing, hence my offer to help out.

I love this forum and would hate to see it close, so if i can do anything to help it  stay the place it is i am willing to

FM's react/respond to things in different ways, obviously, and as past BB's CBB's show some are more *Passionate* than others,be that negatively or favourably,My point is  the fact a FM's reaction in the capacity as a mod could manifest itself in another way .TBF I'd say overall most FM's did and do adhere to forum rules whilst posting, interpretation of content, like/dislike of FM and HM play a huge part culminating in the possibility of objectivity and impartiality being neigh on impossible for most.
