Syd I lose the wee notes coz I read them and think 'ok, I know the date' then put them 'somewhere' and come across them at a later date but usually AFTER the event on the note.
I'm a mobile junkie in as much as I hate to be without it. I hardly ever use it to call anyone though.. sometimes people call me. I hate texting with a passion. It's a security thing for me - I like knowing I can be reached if I need to be and vice versa. I also never switch it off (PeterCat) for the same reason. One day, it will matter... and that'll be the day the battery's dead or something!

I know, I have lost a few too....but, I still think the impersonality and responsibility for the kids to read the notes, and POKE you in person is lost......

That is part of my point Kaffy, most people, can, and will be reached eventually......
The drama of always being able to be reached at ALL times....is what me.....xx

That's the point though.. I want to be reached 'immediately' lol Seriously - I know I'm obsessive about it... but when my mum passed away I was about to have my nails done.. without my moby, I'd not have been there with her. Similarly when my bro-in-law went to the doc's feeling a bit a ropey and they said 'sit there - you're going straight to hospital' (he was in need a heart bypass as it turned out) and my sister - who's moby was switched off in the bottom of her bag couldn't be reached - I was glad I had it then too. It's not really a drama... as long as it's there
In an emergency...exactly...
I still see people texting and talking on a phone while driving a car.
Now that is appalling. It has been the cause of deaths.
I can think of no excuse for phones ringing in theatres and concert halls and similar places. Phones should be off. It is common courtesy.
Not nice when people bump into you because they are preoccupied on their mobile phone.
I hardly ever use mine but it is useful. I put about a tenner credit on it once every two months or so which shows how unimportant it is to me.

Ah now that I agree with, Brisket! I sat in a hushed theatre.. watching the King and I.. and just as the King took his dying breath..... the sound of the Nokia ringtone rang out. If I'd been sitting beside the bloke, he'd have drawn his last breath too. I also got sworn at in the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow for asking a woman to put her phone off - it rang about six time during a concert and she answered each time. Personally I think the attendants should have chucked her out - but she was a bit scary. (Having said that.. i have my phone on silent in such situations, not actually off )
with 2 teenage daughters i need my moby.......................so they can reach me and i can reach them............i like to know they've got to places safely and are ok
I just used to love being out and free, non contactable........still do, anything important will wait, and if it can't, what could I have done anyway?

I did'nt have a mobile, I just knew how to try and keep myself safe, and not just rely on a phonecall home.....

See.....addicted....How has it enhanced your life?
Actually, the one time I really find my mobile essential is when I'm in Japan. The iPhone is one of the few Western phones which works on the Japanese network, so it means that I can phone my boyfriend from the airport bus and tell him what time to meet me when I get to Tokyo. It's also useful there because my mother keeps losing the number of the house I stay in, so it's the only way she can keep in touch with me apart from email.

But bet you are fiddling with the bliddy thing inbetween keeping it open for your Mum........

Actually, I tend to leave it behind when we go out (and we're out for most of the day there). The only time I "fiddle" with it is when I want to find out the latest exchange rate. Data is horribly expensive abroad on O2 , so I don't use it the way I would here.
I love my phone BUT I am becoming increasingly less reliant on it as my life gets into some sort of order again.
So yes I think it is useful and would not want to be without it - especially when I am on a trip or something.
Could I live without a mobile? Yes, probably, but I won't even go five mins up the road without my mobile. I was a late adopter to mobiles (around 2001) and even when I bought it I really thought it was an extravagance. Having a mobile on me has saved so many mix ups and they're so handy to keep to appointments etc. I have an HTC Wildfire and while it's a cut down smartphone, I really like its size (I think many smart phones are too big to be practical) and functionality.

OK I will let you off then ......now lets get back to you usage HERE!.....

No, they make appointments long winded and annoying..........
how would the neighsayers and enemies of progress feel about ditching their comps then?
I could live without my phone but not without the computer I go offline for a day I am going crazy I used to use my phone all the time and feel lost if I forgot it and went out but as I have got older I use it less and less. But life without the internet. Don't know how long I would last before I went nuts.

Well I'm averaging making 2 calls and sending 4 texts a month. Is that excessive?
i got rid of my blackberry and had one of these for my birthday-fave phone ever
and i dont care if you laugh
Could you live without one?
Nope!
Cos I bloody HATE talking on the phone. So text messaging is the way to communicate for me!
If it rings I rarely answer it. Text me & I will converse all day!

**sniggers**......but whilst being outwardly mobile, is it easy to 'phone for help' or 'where the hell are you' ?
I used to manage fine without one.
I can't do without my blackberry now though, i use it for so many things.
Some family members do get agitated though when you don't immediately text back. They think texting is law and it has been around since the year blonk.
we've got virgin cable-and the phone bill went way over so virgin offered my OH a sim which gave her 500mins and 300 texts per month for 50p..!
that ran for a couple of years but she wanted more texts now its ÂĢ5.50 for 500mins and unlimited texts
bargain
I virtually do. We can't get a signal in the village, doesn't seem to matter which network, so I only take it with me in case the car breaks down.

I live in a town/city.....still get fed up with the "you're cracking up" reply or response...I get or need to use......
My neice told me to put mine back in my purse when she seen how old it was.

well they know........we've taught them as best we can.........however there's still the odd times of not being able to make the last bus home to our place if the eldest finishes work late.........that's when it comes in handy..........things like that.........i'd rather have the safety net that either of us can be in touch if it's needed
